Pirelli Tire upgrade

just upgraded the Stock Bridgestones to the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3s! All I have to say is wow! I have a 2023 Yukon Denali Ultimate and these tires have taken this ride to another level. I have read of a needed break-in period….but have felt immediate improvement from Day one.

I chose them over the Defender because I have read they are slightly more comfortable- I really don’t know how you could improve from here. So Quiet, Planted….and bumps are completely no existent. Would recommend! I waited until 21,000 miles to replace OEM….wish I had done this even sooner!

I did the same.... Huge improvement and I got them 450.00 cheaper than defenders with a Sams club discount and rebate....

Read good things about Pirelli’s. I think the Defenders M/S (not 2) will last longer but the only real reason I didn’t go with the Pirelli’s was the ribbed sidewall. My F150 has the factory Hankook AT tires and they have ribbed sidewalls and they often looks dirty because those ribs attract grit and dirt.

But… post a pic! It’s good for others who might be considering them.

I did the same thing on my ‘21 Tahoe. Got a better deal on those tires compared to the Michelin at the time (dealer had a $120 rebate).

I did that in the spring and have probably 6k miles on them so far. No issues at all. I did have a screw in one of them I needed patched, but I can’t blame the tires for that.

I’d get them again for sure.

Our '05 Envoy Denali is on the second set of Pirelli Scorpions. I chose them because they're stiffer and have a higher load rating than others I could find info on at the time, and my priority is in my GF being able to dodge maniacal South Florida drivers (now she's in El Paso, so still applies) We have the Scorpion Verde, I don't think the AS was available yet. Anyway, they've been sterling from new to old (I don't fool with tires, replaced them before the wear bars) Never had to rebalance them, the traction stayed good to the end-although noticed a bit more tendency to slip on paint bars when wet- if there is any concern, it's treadwear. I think the first set went about 30k miles, probably could have gone 35-40 if I left them to the wear bars. It can't be overstated how much better the handling is than with the previous Michelins, though I don't remember the model and they were half-worn when we bought it. But it's the sidewalls and steering response that was the biggest difference.

That sounds ominous
well.... I am not a normal driver and most reviews are from either people that "just" bought them (honeymoon period) and many are backfilled/bot, "like" with no other written data (to bring ratings up) or they drive like a sane person. ( i do not )
so the critical reviews on these are
*can be hard to balance
*they wear down quickly (do not meet treadwear/mileage expectations) which is not a big deal to me there not $400 for each tire
*after 10k or so they tend to make noise when the road is not smooth or rutted, gets worse with wear
*they are a 3 season tire
*they age quickly, issue's with dry rot

when you see 1/2 star reviews almost all of them are related to the seller/dealer experience and have nothing to do with the tire performance. so you have to rule those out.

otherwise most people seem to like them and appear to be a good bang for the buck.

another point to consider is size 22" wheels look great, but 22" tires are not great so finding a really good performance one is hard

not trying to ruin anyone's joy, tires are not something you can just try on like a shirt, once they are installed your screwed (money wise) you can't get your money back and try some other ones unless you are lucky enough to find some dealer that will "exchange" for something else should you be totally dissatisfied.
so for a poor person like me I have to look at the good and the bad and consider all angles, this may mean reading hundreds of reviews and the "star" ratings are skewed especially when it comes to tires.

I’m a Michelin ltx defender guy. Because of the 22” wheel I’m limited. If Michelin made the at2 in the factory size, that’s what I’d use
