Hey guys. I'm gearing up to buy a used Yukon XL Denali and I'm worried about the 6.2 issues. Is there anything i should be looking for, maybe something about the vehicle history that should guide my decision making?

I was looking at lower mileage examples, then thought maybe a high-mileage proves that it's reliable, but at this point I don't know.

Part of the challenge is that I'm exporting it to be used as a work vehicle. There's a GM dealership here but I'm guessing exporting the truck voids the warranty, as with many other brands.

I'm trying to swing for a new one but it might be a little too out of budget.

Appreciate any input!

Welcome to the forum from Oregon.

I am a GMT800 guy. Others with more knowledge about the 2021+ years will chime in.

We bought a used 2021 Yukon Denali 6.2 with 49K miles on it from Hertz - e.g. likely had all maint done. Driven a year and 5,000 miles so far with no issues. Maybe if it has a good history and has significant miles it's a good omen that the lifter issues are not a big concern? We're certainly hoping so :)

Pics of the truck, please.

You are already receiving sage advice from the knowledgeable folks on this Forum.

I would suggest staying away from the 8 speed transmission, which was standard in the 2015-2020 models (may be off by a year or two).

At the moment there are three problems with 6.2 engines.
1. The temperature gaps are broken, because of this the engine seizes up to a mileage of up to 1000 km. There are chips on the dipstick and in the oil filter.
2. Something is happening with the crankshaft, it’s unclear, the liners are wearing out, and the crankshaft is wearing out, it feels like the balancing is off. and he smashes the engine from the inside. This is on runs up to 30,000 km, there are also chips on the oil dipstick and in the oil filter.
3. This is a missed minimum oil level. Unfortunately, our engines actively consume oil, and it is necessary to top it up regularly; when actively driving on the highway at a speed of 150-170 km/h, the oil consumption is approximately 0.5 liters per 1000 km. If you miss it, the engine will fail. there are not always shavings here.
Based on the above, I would take a car with a mileage of 10-20-30 thousand km, or 20 thousand miles, but first ask to drain the oil and cut the oil filter to make sure that there are no chips in it.

In 2022, I bought a 2021 with 36k highway miles. Engine was replaced at 42k miles, twice.

In 2023, I bought a brand new vehicle. At 11,552 miles, the engine was replaced.

Two vehicles, 3 engines, in approximately one year of ownership.

You are hard** on engines. When you hear noises, add oil and no matter what the ads on tv say, oil is not good forever.
