i have a 2001 4x4 tahoe and wanted to ask, what is the best budget friendly lowering kit (preferably 2-3 inches lower)

Welcome to the forum from Virginia. McGaughy’s is what I’ve used but Belltech and others make good kits too.

Welcome to the forum from FL! Lowering a 4WD is forbidden, I think you meant to say LIFT KIT!! Sell it, get a RWD, and lower that.

Just kidding, @Big Mama hit it on the head, those are the most common go-to kits. I am not sure if they have a spindle kit for the 4WD though, having to account for the CV axles.

Just kidding, @Big Mama hit it on the head, those are the most common go-to kits. I am not sure if they have a spindle kit for the 4WD though, having to account for the CV axles.
honestly, if I didn't live in the middle of the city, I would lift it. the only reason its a 4wd is because my grandmother (whom i inherited the tahoe from) lived in waxahachi and needed it, i dont and just want a street setup lol

Ironically, I am in the opposite position lol. My Yukon is AWD and has autoride suspension and there's no way to lift it without throwing a bunch of codes from the ride height sensors. My "street setup" is just stock height with 22s lol

Have you looked in the lifted section for your rig? I believe there are several lifted rigs with Z55 and or Z95. @Trey Hardy might be able to offer advice if you’re interested.

Due to the cv axles they may bind up
Kryptonite suspension makes 2wd/4wd hubs to where you can remove the cv axles without your wheel bearings spitting apart.
Easiest way would be to lower the keys as low as they can go and for the rear you can cut the springs shorter or new drop springs for the rear are fairly cheap.
You’ll probably need shorter sway bar links in the rear also which are also cheap but I’d wait to see the angles on the front and rear sway bar before I’d worry about them
Besides that having the torsion keys makes it hard one of the only options to get lower from there is drop spindles. It ain’t like the 07-13 body style where you can simply flip the front strut to the bottom of the lower control arm and get a “free” 2” drop
Personally I don’t have experience lowering the 99-06 but I’ve lifted about 4-5 now

Belltech has a solid reputation and offers a 2/3-inch drop kit for 4WD models. It usually includes front torsion bar keys and rear drop shackles.

I love the looks of mine a couple inches lower front and rear. It's a Denali with AWD so it was never gonna be a serious off roader anyway.

I have belltech spindles up front that I got used and a rear belltech 3/4" kit for the rear
