Hi all,

I purchased my first ever GM product and got a 2024 Chevy Tahoe LT (5.3L) in January. It has 12,000 miles on it and has been a good ride until today when I was driving down the road and the car began to stutter and then the engine just died. The radio and infotainment system still worked, but when I tried to start the vehicle it would grind but not start. I had the vehicle towed to the nearby dealer tonight and will have to call them in the morning.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening with a brand new Tahoe?

So many new components and accessories and tech added as each year goes on and so many things to go wrong. Getting that special "who who ha ha tickler" was the last draw.

Almost every day, a member has a tale of whoa about their new GM SUV dying. I feel for ya, I do.

Man, I really love my 2005 Tahoe Z71 more and more every day.

Looking forward to the "gobbledeegoop" explanation you are given.

I am really just looking for others who may have had this issue and what the diagnosis was and potential fix if there was a fix. Is it an engine issue? A fuel pump issue? Something else?

When you say "grinding", do you mean it cranked like it was trying to start while making normal cranking sounds, or was it literally a grindy metal-on-metal sound?

If your Tahoe was cranking relatively normal but just not starting, I would put my money on it being the fuel pump control module (FPCM). My 2024 did that at only 320 miles and left me on the side of the road. Bright side is that it was a relatively quick fix and I had my Tahoe back a day later. They just had to switch out the module.

But if it is actually grinding and making noises other than typical cranking sounds, then it could be something else more serious. Did it crank for a while when trying to start?

Well I was driving at 50 mph when it started making a strange noise almost like the tire had popped. The car eventually came to a stop and when I tried to restart the car it was making a sound like a car trying to turn over to start but it would not. Maybe that is called a cranking sound. It did not sound like metal to metal.

Is it common for a fuel pump to go out so soon? How many miles do you have on your vehicle now?

there have been a number of reports of the fuel pump control module failing, no set mileage it's random
