Wait!?! @j91z28d1 does your Yuke show z95 on the glove box door?

So true! FL is amazing and I didn’t want to leave when I was out there on business. Pretty sure my blood pressure dropped down a notch too. Felt like home.

My girls are 17 & 20 so I’ve got to secure they get through school and / or get a starter home in this $7.89 family size bag of potato chip economy.

My friend moved there last year. 3 hurricanes, 2 straight months in the mid-90's, and $800/mo. for home insurance (on a $325K house), and he is regretting his decision.
What part of Florida did he move to? As for the hurricanes, you learn to prepare for them and they come and go. No snow, no earthquakes, few tornadoes.

I would like to be a snowbird, spending the summer in cooler climates.

Homosassa area. He has to go thru some state insurance thing as his house was built before 1990 and he can't get insurance thru a normal carrier. At least that is what he told me. My neighbors are snowbirds. 1/2 there, 1/2 in Wisconsin. No earthquakes here either... lol!

That's a nice area I haven't visited in a long time. He might be in a flood plain living near the coast or a river and that drives up costs.

FL isn't what it once was. growing up there was nice, hurricanes weren't as common, or at least we didn't care much. for 35 years of my life we never even considered evacuating. hell the house I grew up in didn't even have insurance on it. Just a old wooden house that had been there as long as anyone could remember. stuff was pretty cheap because it was so hot and muggy no one wanted to live there year around. as soon as the blue hair snow birds left(and took their money with them) everything went back to normal. they actually used to. cover the migration on the local news haha. once they started not leaving and started throwing their weight around. the state got behind the curve of the population, all the bigger city's are over crowded now, and it's become a poster child for politics.

sleepy chill/weird Florida is long gone. everyone I know that has lived there their whole life wants to retire some place else.

Born and raised here. There are still parts of Florida with life going as you described it. Whenever we have to wait to be seated at a restaurant on a Friday night, it's time to move.
