My wifes 17 XL is due for tires and I was looking for recommendations. Looking for the smoothest ride and we are locked in to the 22" factory rims. I realize this might not be the best option but replacing the rims doesnt seem like a practical solution right now. We go to the snow once or twice a year but most will be highway type miles.

Michelin Defenders - good for 70,000 miles, quiet, good dry and wet handling, and have taken anything that the NH winters can throw at them. They are a bit pricey, but well worth it, IMO.

Anyone know what sidewalk ratio fits without creating running issues in stock ride height? I’d assume the bigger the sidewalk the better the ride which I think is why people say to go down to the 20” rims and thicker sidewall?

Second vote for the Michelin defenders. I ordered them from Costco. They were there within a few days free install, balancing, mounting, TPMS. Can’t go wrong. They worked really well on our first trip up to the mountains in a fair amount of snow.

The stock tire size for GM SUV's with 22 inch wheels is 285/45x22. Yes, typically, the taller the sidewall (not sidewalk), the softer the ride. But, at the same time, the taller the sidewall, the lower the handling response, so there is a trade-off.

Love my Defenders on two trucks! I was checking out the Michelin website to see what was new and my old tire has been replaced by an XL rated version.

My old KO2s were magnets for road hazards. Not a single puncture in 3 years with the Defenders.

Sidewalk? Thanks auto correct, WTH, haha

So sounds like I’m pretty much locked in to the 45 series tire size, I’ll start shopping around to see pricing

275/55R20 would be GM OE. Unless you regularly look for opportunities to enjoy gratuitous swerving,
or need to make room for GM's OE 6 piston front brakes, I'd prefer 275/55R20 over 285/45R22,
and so would every other passenger.
It's not only the extra rubber - 20" wheels are lighter than 22" wheels.
