I have a 04 z71 Tahoe that I bought from a guy who said supposedly the only thing wrong is the rear main seal is leaking. One day coming home I hit a bump and I saw a spark behind cluster panel and gauges cut off went to change the cluster from its upgraded led cluster to the original one and switched pigtails. Now I still don’t have gauges and truck turn over and want crank. When I first did it, it started and ran for maybe 30 secs. Now I’m confused to what happened. Any help?

Welcome to the forum! Moved you here for your "no crank" issue. Or is it a "crank, no start" issue?

Was the replacement cluster programmed with the VIN?

Did you try to reinstall the cluster that you removed to see if it will start?

The cluster is NOT whats causing the no crank/start issue. You can literally remove the whole cluster on a working vehicle and start it and then drive down the road with no cluster installed. Ive done it. The cluster has nothing to do with the start/run circuit. Is battery charged up? Whats its voltage? Battery wires tight and not corroded both at battery and opposite ends? How about down at the starter?

As far as the Cluster light show I expect you either have a failed cluster (Bad cap(s), silver migration short or burnt traces) and/or wires passing through the firewall rubbing against the metal firewall (Ground). Check all fuses in both fuse boxes.

Agree with @rockola1971 The cluster just basically "reports" what the ECU data is being fed...you can run the truck w/o cluster plugged in.

Unfortunately, this going to involve the 'ol check "fuel, spark, air, and compression." Something is missing.

The only thing is since you mentioned pigtails and spark behind cluster AND you just bought the truck: check fuse box for burnt fuses. It could be the previous owner did some Jerry Rigging of wiring. People do all kinds of crazy stuff to vehicles.

Figuring out redneck-engineered automotive wiring has got to be one of those things up there in the list of things to do in life before you die, LoL. I'm joking, of course.

Yes it’s programmed and I reinstalled the old cluster
