I completely agree, it has nothing to do with the heater settings. GM needs to fix this issue asap, it’s not only the Tahoe and Yukons it’s the sierra’s regular and HD’s as well. The issue is the wiper blades sit far below the windshield and freeze up. And the defrost vents are only in the center and don’t extend to the sides of the dash./windshield. There should be a heater like Toyota did on there trucks and suvs. This is by far one the biggest safety issues a car manufacture should 100% have to fix.

I park in a heated garage and if it’s snowing outside with the defrost on full blast in -10 C or colde and a little bit of snow falling, ice builds up immediately on the wiper blades and the defrost cannot keep up. If the wiper blades are not on full blast non stop the freeze to the windshield.

I have ordered some heated wiper blades and hoping this helps.

I have checked into heaters to stick to the windshield to help keep the blades warm and from freezing completely solid to the windshield but GM has made the gap to narrow to even try to slide the heaters between the dash and the windshield.

A complete flub especially on a 100,000 dollar vehicle.

What heater blades are you adding? I wonder if adding additional heating elements to the base of the windshield and wiring them in will fix this issue? I live in the southern US so we rarely (if even) hit -10°C (14°F for the Americans on here lol), but as someone familiar with the Land Rover/Range Rover windshield replacement costs, I think the Range Rover Sport heated windshield was $1500-2500 back in the day. Standard windshield = standard cost. I do see your point tho that a $100k truck shouldn’t be “standard”… goes back to the debate of price creep in vehicles.

Do you think everyone in the country needs this on their truck? They don't. At best, a windshield heater should be an option. And if it's an option, you're going to have to pay for it. So now your $100K truck is going to cost more (unless you don't already have a lot of costly options on your truck, at which point your truck doesn't cost $100K).

It's not broken so there's nothing to fix. Just not to your liking. So figure out the designer's intent or do whatever floats your boat.

Actually yes in my country (Canada) everyone should have it. And yes it should be an option GM should 100% have for these vehicles. If it was an option I would have had it. Come to Alberta when it’s -15 C, and snowing and you can see how much a pain in the ass and safety issue this is.

Here in the USA, we still sell ice scrapers. We also sell snow shovels for all of the people who don't have radiant heat in their driveways and sidewalks.

How far should these heaters go? How much ice and snow should these heaters be able to keep from forming on your truck?

You're welcome to complain about this. But at the same time you should understand that the thing you want in this case would just add more money to the cost of the truck -- and would be something that most people who don't live in Canada would not be interested in paying [more] money for.

I'm in Canada too and see temps colder then that an no way would I want it as a standard option to bring the price up even more and make the windshield cost a small fortune or loose the feature when it needs to be replaced.

It's usually a non issue in those temps anyway because when it's that cold most people warm up their vehicle for a few minutes before going anywhere and by that point the defroster is working.

Thanks for that. I was starting to wonder if freezing was colder when measured with Cs, than with Fs.

This is the critical part I see.

The defroster would be the solution if the wiper was high enough and the vents wide enough to be released from the windshield by the hot air from the vents.

Even better if the heat kept the slush the wiper pushes down from freezing, but that has been an issue with multiple generations of these trucks.
