That certainly should be looked into and corrected as necessary.

To inspect the front differential mounts, you'll need to get all 4 wheels off the ground and with the motor running, put the transmission in drive and then reverse, with an observer watchin the front differential from underneath. If the mounts are bad, the observer will see the front differential move, as well as hear the clunk.

I’ll have to check those mounts. Rock auto sells a front end rebuilt kit that comes with inner and outer tie rods, pitman arm, idler arm, idler arm mount and some bushings so I have that on that way. That should take care of all the play

today I replaced the pitman arm, idler arm, idler arm mount, inner tie rods, outer tie rods, stabilizer end links, checked wheel bearings and everything else in the front end. Inspected the front diff bushings. I can’t find any issues but I’m still getting a clunking noise under acceleration and bumps.

today I replaced the pitman arm, idler arm, idler arm mount, inner tie rods, outer tie rods, stabilizer end links, checked wheel bearings and everything else in the front end. Inspected the front diff bushings. I can’t find any issues but I’m still getting a clunking noise under acceleration and bumps.

Have you figured out where the clunk comes from?

I have not. It’s still bumping. I took it to a guy that’s very knowledgeable on these vehicles and he thinks it’s the front diff mounts

OK. I always ran in 4wd auto mode. It finally dawned on me to put it in 2wd mode and see what happens. The clunking completely went away. So I believe it is the CV axel. I ordered the part(genuine gm) and will be replacing it this week. I will update here...

Have the front diff mounts checked; it's common for the bushings to wear out.

I don’t think its your cv’s. To be honest, running 4wd auto constantly isn’t really the best for these trucks but I digress, i think your clunking may be the u-joints in the front driveshaft. Worth a look before you yank the axle. My 2cents. Hard to diagnose stuff over the internet.
