2500 Suburban production ended in 2014 and 3500 ran 2015-2019.
2500 you could buy at a dealership but not many stocked them. They were substantially more than a normal Suburban (also could get a GMC Yukon version too).
3500 were for fleet buyers only. You could not roll up and order one as a normal buyer. Most applications were for aftermarket upfitting with bullet proofing or for the railroad to add the attachments to drive on the tracks.

Nit-picky points of clarification...

2500 production ended 2013, 1 yr before GMT900 production ended.

First year of production for the 3500HD was 2016. The 3500HD has more than twice the payload capacity of the 2500.

The 3500HD got the 11.5" rear (I think?)
My 2500 has the 10.5" rear. American Axle, the manufacturer, rates the 10.5" to 8600 lbs, according to their literature. My door tag shows a RAWR of 5500, probably because of the springs. Next limitation would be the tires, which can handle ~6000 lbs.

My 2500 has a GVWR of 8600 lbs and a payload capacity of 2088 lbs.
The 3500HD has an 11,000-lb GVWR, 6200-lb RAWR and a payload rating of 4200 lbs.

Since the 2500 and 3500HD are pretty close in curb weights, my best guess is the 3500HD got better/bigger brakes, an axle ratio upgrade to 4.10, beefier/stiffer springs, and the beefier rear axle.

Good sir, I expect nothing less of you than to nit-pick my posts. Thank you for the clarification on the yr/model. I was not 100% confident.

You really are a wealth of info regarding these trucks. Cheers!

Ding ding, 15-19 3500 did get the bigger payload rating from its huge, new style front calipers. Almost everything else remained unchanged from previous Gen 3 (SUV).

As far as the 6.0L they share with earlier trucks, the Gen 4 6.0L motor went to direct injection.

With the option for self leveling rear Suspension but no AFM or Autoride / z55, the 2500 & 3500 chassis are simplicity.

there's definitely a 6.0 in a 2019 truck that wasn't direct injection. my buddy had one as a work truck. 2500. it was a good truck. don't think it made it into a suv thou. which is a shame. the direct injection is going to be nothing but a hassle as these engines get in the 200k plus range

Just to clarify: the rear axle on the Suburban 3500 HD uses the 10.5" ring gear from the Suburban 2500 but has 4" axle tubes instead of 3.5", and they're running the axle shafts from the 11.5" rear end in the tubes. And the axle also now carries the bigger brakes from the 3500 SRW pickups. So it's a bit of a mashup between the rear end on the 3500 SRW pickups and the Suburban 2500's of yore.

They kept the L96 until the end of production for the K2s. The 6.6 gas motor that replaces the L96 is direct injection if memory serves.
