I bought a used 2021 Yukon Denali that didn't have a controller. I added a Curt and the knob goes where the OEM controller would have gone and works A-OK. Unfortunately it's not integrated with vehicle software and you don't get auto anti-sway? (not sure how effective that would be) but that doesn't stop it from working 100% as a normal controller.
Curt separates the control knob from the physical box with the electronics so the knob will fit in a smaller spot than would be needed if you were trying to mount a conventional controller box.
