Which is STILL at least 10x what he needs to spend to 'fix' whatever the OP has not yet found needs fixing.

Point is, I no longer believe the problem is actually vehicular at all. Maths are way too far off.

Yep. I probably would have kept my 2010 Tahoe for a few more years if not for the dreaded WI rust issues. I could have bought a new Tahoe for another $30K with employee discount but couldn't justify it. But then I see guys who trade in every 6 months here....

My Tahoe Z71 is so fugly, in considerable part due to NYC winters,
not to mention Braille parallel parking,
that I'll do y'all a favor and NOT show you pics.

But I do my best to keep the mechanicals sound enough,
that I won't hesitate to head out on a 450 miles-at-a-time trip.

My 2005 rocker panels are rusted thru where I can put my hand in there. Too many Winters with Pre-treated roads and road salt!!

But regardless the rocker panel box on the earlier late 90 to mid 2000 trucks was clearly a weak link, they must have been sealed up and the metal was not painted/treated or moisture/water could easily find its way in the rockers. Kind of sad, if my 2005 would not have had the rust, I would have kept it up better!

But as long as the engine continues to run, it will get driven. Hopefully I can get to 325,000-350,000 without spending too much more money on it.

As I say, at this point it owes me nothing. Every mile I put on it does not impact its value or worth!!

My friend likely "had" you beat. His diesel Toyota''s gas tank rusted off and was replaced by a 5 gallon bucket in the passenger seat. His Subaru leaked oil so bad at idle that smoke would come out of the hood. His Ford pickup had a 4x4 for a rear cab mount and the floorboards were so rusty you would get wet driving in the rain. The topper was his Saturn Vue that went different directions crossing some RR tracks when the front sub frame rusted off. He replaced them all with 3 used but clean vehicles within 6 months. His reason? I'm too old for this ****. Remember, new cars become used cars for us to buy later!

I've always been more concerned with mechanicals than with cosmetics, too.

For long trips it sounds like your truck is ready to go! No rust and regular maintenance is the biggest plus and maybe the only weak link might be the tires at 4 years old but depending on the miles, Michelins can get 60k. For me if regular maintenance is done and the AC, tires and brakes are good I wouldn’t worry about putting on the miles on a long trip.

That said, I like the safety features, adaptive cruise, 360 cameras, ventilated/heated seats, panaramic sunroof, 12 way adjustable seats and heads up display on my 2024 Tahoe with air suspension and magnetic ride.

Either one can easily make the trip but it comes down to personal preference.
Some might say the newer trucks are expensive, some say it’s worth it!
