The L96 is a beast when it comes to reliability, especially for a daily driver like your Denali. You’re right — you’ll lose a little horsepower on paper, but you’ll gain a ton of durability. Biggest thing will be getting a proper tune to deal with the different compression and no VVT if your L96 doesn't have it. I actually spotted a l96 engine for sale near me recently, and they’re pretty reasonably priced too compared to rebuilding an L94.

If you had a few L96 ready to pop into a 07-14 Denali for sale with a blown motor you could make a nice profit flipping them.

An 07/08 Denali running on reg gas with an e85 motor is a huge plus. A 10-14 Denali with no AFM, running on regular fuel and the longevity of the L96 pretty much makes for the perfect luxury tow vehicle.

That was a good read. It's actually a very good upgrade to the 6.2, with reliable horsepower gains and durability easily attainable.

My side project for the past couple months is doing the exact same thing, except I bored it to a 6.2. It will be getting a set of L94 heads and an OEM L92 camshaft, retaining the VVT. LOL, don't have the vehicle for it yet. This summer I'll be shopping for a clean 2010 to 2014 Sierra pickup with a blown motor..... I'll make this into my toy hauler.

Don’t buy em, build em mindset. Addressing the shortcomings of the L92, L9H & L94, correcting them and building those weaknesses out makes for a decade of happy cruising.

Don’t forget to collect your 2019+ 10SP 10L80 trans to get your MPG up and RPM down.
