I think we need to start with where you are located. That will depend if you also need a snow rated tire as I would guess you do not have snow tires dedicated for winter use.
Next is budget. I think you have been provided some great options but they all mean bumpkis if they are not in your...
I think he was commenting on my earlier question about adding cooling to the front seats. All in all, it seems like any seats with cooling + wire harness should enable the cooling in the front. Back seats - ain’t gonna happen. Even the Caddy doesn’t have that so would have to be custom seats.
You better believe I’ve earned that award. I think we should talk to the moderators about adding that achievement here.
Tires/wheels will be a great discussion. I do love the HD wheels. The best were the GMT800HD ones but that’s my opinion.
We will be traveling next week and looking much like you! We have the captain seats which I think is the only major difference between our trucks. It works well for the dog as she’s 100+lbs… she used to ride on the lap of whoever was in the back seat. Now she has a full dog bed.
And as we all...
Here for the party!
Give us all the break down what you replace/check. Plugs, coils and wires would be a good refresh to see if it’s a sparking issue. That can be a bit of $$$ tho if it has low compression
You got the sticker?? Dang. Lucky… mine must have been removed and because I know the fleet it was it they put a sticker from a label maker that says “GASOLINE ONLY”… wonder if they had issues with ppl using wrong fuel before
Here is what the Suburban HD supplemental manual shows. If the truck has a yellow fuel cap you can use E85.
I am going to ASSUME that your truck still has the factory fuel cap at 18k miles.
Tires: #1 item to keep you out of the ditch and get you out of the ditch. Figuratively and literally.
Leaks: My concern is how low the fluids got in the different components. Some might have been driven bone dry for extended periods of time. Would make me concerned too at this price. This is...
Agreed. I think it’s interesting because I think there are several threads on here on how to add a second battery to gassers. It’s a nice benefit but expensive to replace!
Those tires are crazy low. I’ve ran thru several sets of KO2s on my other truck and they start to ride/perform TERRIBLY even at 60k miles on them. They still work “fine” at 70k miles but traction is super low and rides like a washboard.
Those are way past 70k miles…
No opinion. From what I can tell unless running a lot of accessories this is overkill for a gasser. I believe our trucks came with the up-sized alternator as well. Plenty of power considering this is not a diesel or we are running huge plows/winches/lights at the same time.
Great to hear it tows well with the 7k lbs. I was stalking on another forum and I think the holding gears is also a transmission tune that GM does on HD trucks vs the 1500 chassis. The 1/2ton will always try to shoot to the highest gear (even in tow haul) vs the HD tune which will more willingly...
When was the last time you changed tires? Do you know how to read the date code on a tire?
From experience the lower profile tires on cars can DRASTICALLY change the ride quality when they age out. The tread might be good but the compound itself can become super super hard and provide a terrible...
100% ok with that! I’m super excited you bought a 3500 so close in time with my purchase so we can compare notes and experiences. We can treat it like our own “mini-forum” for the 3500 Suburban and hopefully we can see if there are other owners out there.
We will be doing a ~1000 road trip in a...
That is awesome! Super excited for you and I think you hit it right on the head in how to describe the ride/handling. CIA/Govt life is the best hahaha!
That mpg tho is not sustainable… I’m averaging about 13-15mpg with mixed driving.
Your truck looks GREAT!
I am not sure this is 100% true. I think this is only true on Escalades but otherwise the Tahoes/Subs/Yuks are selectable 4wd with auto-4wd on some of them.
Edit: If it is a Z71 spec then I think 2-speed transfer is standard + rear mechanical locker. Max tow might which it to an electronic...
You will need the H11 connector if memory serves correct. But if you haven’t used Temu - it’s great. It’s like discount Amazon. Just double check stuff as sometimes it’s a bit wonky. I have gotten some good deals on things tho - CarPlay is one of them. I think these links should work...
@Geotrash, since you will be joining the exclusive club of 3500 ownership. I would like to let you know that as a parts bin special it does come with two terrible Chevy traits: no wireless CarPlay/Android auto and headlights that can be outclassed by a matchstick (unlit). Never discussed this...
