Here's an FYI. If anyone orders an axle shaft bearing when changing the shaft seal (at least on the drivers side anyway) the Timken bearing does not fit. The OD is too large. From what I can tell you need the SKF bearing.
Working on an everlasting brake/front wheel bearing/CV shaft/front axle leak job. I still need to change fix the headliner, flush the cooling system and change the oil pressure sensor. But I got the rear wheels put back on so it at least looks like I'm getting somewhere.
Working on the tahoe again today. I couldn't fish out any pieces of broken cir clip, but after looking in the bore I think it's still in whatever groove there. You can kind of see it back there.
@OR VietVet oh ok. I was thinking you meant there was something out there specifically designed for brake cleaner. I know what you are referring to though. I didn't realize either you could get brake cleaner in other forms besides aerosol cans.
Thanks for the explanation on the cir clip. I...
What's the quality of info like in the pdf service manuals? I bought one for an Impala a couple months ago and it seemed like it was missing like half the info. Like there aren't connector pin outs and component locations. It's also very disorganized.
@OR VietVet that's what I was afraid of. I don't have the vehicle nearby right now so I couldn't just go look at it (it's at my parents place 2 hours away) but and didn't think there was a removable cover. I was wondering though if they could be flushed out so I appreciate the suggestion...
@swathdiver i stopped at oriellys yesterday because I had some stuff to return and had the old line and the new line checked with a piece of tubing that nuts already. It threaded on to both fine. That thread doesn't seem to be something common and not part of a tap and die set. I stopped at...
@Rocket Man for a while I've been wanting to upgrade my diagnostic equipment. Before I got the Tahoe I was thinking either Autel or Launch. But now the Tech2 emulators seem like an attractive setup too.
@Rocket Man I've been wanting to get some sort of factory level service info. I just haven't decided what to get yet between Alldata, Mitchell DIY or what ever else. But yea Alldata seems to be fairly cost-effective. I'd probably spring for at least a year.
There wasn't much play. Maybe a 1/16" with just the stub shaft? The other side is tight. It was much more noticeable though with the CV shaft bolted up. But yea since I can see the bearing and I have a new one already I would like to replace it.
Ok. I had to work a bit to get the shaft out. It didn't just slide out. I can't really tell if the bearing is bad. Just initially looking at it it seems ok. Would that be where the radial play was coming from? Is there a was to recover the broken pieces without disassembling the entire...
I have the inner axle shaft from the front axle out on the passenger side to change the seal. Does the needle bearing get changed here too?
Does the end of the shaft need a retaining ring?
The CV shaft and wheel hub have already been replaced.
I'm replacing the factory brake caliper hoses with Russell braided stainless steel lines. I've got all the lines changed except for the passenger front. This one won't thread onto the nut on the hardliners for some reason. The old one goes on fine though. Anyone have thoughts on this? I'm...
So I had the leak on the my drivers front inner axle shaft to be fixed. When the CV shaft was bolted up to it the shaft did have a bit of radial play so I was thinking the bearing may have needed replacing too. I have the shaft out but can't see how to get the bearing out. Where would the play...
