Yep - see the post you quoted. If you dont have one, make the investment. A good scan tool enables you to perform a proper diagnosis vs just throwing parts (money) at the problem. Pays for itself after a couple uses. I believe you can also to some testing with a multimeter but not sure exactly...
Great news, @jrobie79.So the VBs are interchangeable as an entire assembly provided the TEHCMs are either fast-adapted, reprogrammed if necessary or a 'correct' TEHCM for the vehicle is installed (the TEHCMs themselves never changed structurally, just programming-wise)...Haven't tried swapping...
This sounds like a C2 issue (command and control). Stick a bidirectional scan tool and take it for a test drive to see if the pcm is commanding this sort of shift pattern and why. It could be tps, maf or pcm itself. Shift sol B is off in 3rd and 4th, shift sol A is on in first and fourth so if...
The cases, most of the case internals are either the same or immaterially different. Valve bodies and spacer plates are definitely not all the same. 2010 saw a redesign of the vb and plate; 2014 saw the introduction of a new spacer plate with an 8th checkball (2006-14 had 7 check balls). You can...
@Coolman1987us for the win!
Nice net diagnosis, man.
Glad you found it, hope no damage was sustained to anything...did you do or have any recent brake work done?
It's a bit disconcerting that those bolts can come out on their on, looks like another item to check/retorque periodically...
Ok now drop the pan and see if there's any debris at the bottom to rule in or out the problem being transmission-related.
Alternatively, you can put the vehicle up on jackstands, disconnect the driveshaft, put the trans in neutral and see if you can spin the transmission's output shaft in...
Sounds like gear train failure. Pieces of broken off gear teeth are wedging themselves into the rest of the gears, stopping the mesh and locking it up. Drop the pan and look for kibbles and bits. If observed, put the pan back on with a few bolts and yank it for overhaul.
Let us know if this works. I'm not sure about running a 2010+ valve body/tehcm on a 2006-2009 case in a 2010+ as I've never done it. But the case components themselves never changedso maybe it will fly.
Gotcha, wasnt sure of exactly when support ended but sounds like the latest LT1/4 engines arent compatible...what is that, like three entirely different engines GM has produced with the same friggin RPO code, lol.
I would call the dealership service dept. They will be able to definitively tell you whether or not it's doable or not. Especially since you plan on taking it there, you want their position before you go.
My official position has always been that they are not interchageable, at least not...
I would have it towed to the dealer; more than likely, it will be a fraction of the cost to have them reprogram vs buying that OTC tool which you will use like once or twice in your lifetime (not worth it)...
You can also investigate to determine if your TECH-2 can be used to do the reprogram...
Here's the OTC tool...While it's expensive, not sure I'd trust any el cheapo chinese knock off or budget cable/interface that may or may not brick my PCM/TEHCM...Not saying that would happen to you but at the same time, I've heard horror stories of the kind over the years, mostly to do with the...
That's good; bolt those back onto the 2007 6L80, run the reprogramming and adapts and if the 2007 transmission works, then you should be fine for a while. I'm not sure I'd reuse the converter...If you can swing it, I'd grab a new one...Doesn't have to be anything fancy, but the pre-existing...
I thought you were trying to swap a 2012 6L80's TEHCM/VB assy into your 2007 6L80, as per the second half of your thread title:
swapping 2012 valve body/TCM into the 2007 6L80
If you have the TEHCM/VB/IMS and SS harness assembly from the 2007 vehicle, then bolt it to the 2007 unit that has been...
The two small black square-shaped objects connected to the small black wiring harness, bolted to the housing via 10mm bolts, are you input and output speed sensors...If the picture above is from a 2012 6L80 and you want to swap that assembly into a 2007 6L80, you won't be able to do so as is (at...
So the vehicle doesn't move at all, regardless of whether it's in R, D or Manual mode? If so, likely torque converter crapped out and destroyed the pump though you can quickly confirm/deny the pump rotor/slide are intact by checking line pressure with a gauge on the driver side of the trans...
Have you had this rebuilt as of yet? What are/were the symptoms as of Apr 27th? No movement, slipping/grinding/wrong gear starts, etc?
If not done so, Take it to a shop well versed in these transmissions so you receive all the requisite corrective parts installed and procedures performed. See...
At 285k, you have to assess the overall health of the vehicle and try your best to predict how many more miles of service life it has left. If the engine is still running strong and has good compression across all cylinders, leak down is within specified limits, no other major sub-system on it...
You would need a subscription to GM's AC Delco Technical Delivery System (TDS) for programming along with a computer/labtop and presumably a cable interface to your vehicle and computer...I've never used it so can't tell you exactly how it works but the subs are available at a yearly cost per...
You'll need to reprogram that 2013 unit as it's not interchangeable with your 2007 as-is. The operating system versions on the TEHCMs are different based on year/year range and model/sub-model. Not sure if you were aware...
I wouldnt buy used, those are a crap shoot, especially the pre-2009 model year units. Properly overhaul yours so that it's no longer a concern.
Check out my 6L80 Info Thread (link is in my sig) for parts liste, procedures and resources to help you along the way.
Does this happen at all vehicle speeds and in all gears (ie it will downshift with the smallest amount of marginal throttle input while in 4th, 3rd or 2nd) or is it just happening at one speed range or in one gear?
A priori, sounds like you have a C3 problem (communication, command and control)...
