    Help understanding the 5.3

Known problems with these engines are the O-ring on the oil pump, where the oil pipe that goes into the sump attaches. These rings break down over time and then the oil pump sucks in air. It always makes sense to replace this o-ring if you don't know whether it has already been done. The...

Problems with worn valves. Need good advice

@swathdiver what they sometimes do is change the valve seats, but not the valve stem seals. And the ones they used were too short, which caused the disintegration of the valve stem seal housing, so to speak, from the seal itself. @rockola1971 how should over tighten rocker arms, wear the valve...

Problems with worn valves. Need good advice

I have more worn out valves. Is that common at these engines? Never heard about that. What can cause that? And obviously only intake valves are affected. I am suspicious if the used a rebuild head and someone put in wrong valve stem seals and cheap valves which are not hardent enough?

Problems with worn valves. Need good advice

I put the old valve stem seals together and here you see a comparison to the new and correct ones. I guess the garage choose wrong valve stem seals. The former owner told me that they did something on the cylinder heads to make the heads lpg resistant. But that dont explain the worn out valve...

Problems with worn valves. Need good advice

Yes I do, but I also lose oil between the oil changes, but the oil does not look bad. I made a co test and there was no co in the cooling liquid..

Problems with worn valves. Need good advice

Im measured the valve and the intake valve is approximate 3 Millimeters shorter.... When I look at this, I think that the rocker arm had wear out the valve. How could that be?

Problems with worn valves. Need good advice

Hi guys, In search for my too high oil consumption, i figured out that my valve stem seals are not good anymore so I decided to swap them. Today i started the work which is like Holliday on this engine, if you ever did this on a BMW from the same year of production. But when I did the first...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Restored my tailgate lockhook. (Is lockhook the correct word?) Tried to disassemble it, but the rusted screws were to tight in the plastic. So i needet to treat it mounted. Does anybody know if the plastic handle is still at GM otlr Aftermarket available?

    Brakes

If you could hear the noise simply by turning the wheel, remove the caliper and turn the wheel. If the noise is gone, there is some issue with you brakes, if not, it's possibly the wheel bearing. By the the way. Did you push back the pistons in the calipper a few times, to make them free moving...

    2002 tahoe euro version

I cannot believe that this has something to do with an Euro version. I know 3 Escalade and 3 Tahoe. None of them must press a button to start the engine. I think you probably have a aftermarket immobilizer, like Fless also suggest, that was widespread in the 90s, at least in Germany, because...

Swapping transmissions....what else should I do when I pull the trans?

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Isn't there a mistake in your statement? Doesn't it have to mean much more: damn, now there's no reason why my wife doesn't want to drive the car... My now ex wife called me today in the morning. She stated that her car is making strange noises, since two days, but now the noise is...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Today I greased my door control bands. I had a squeaking on the rear driver's door for a long time. It didn't help. Then I looked where it came from, and it was at the top of the door. So I treated the door seals with silicone spray. It didn't help either. Then I saw that the upper edge of...

    Oil pressure low

What exactly do you want to check? If the oil pressure sensor reports that the oil pressure is too low, then you will also have too low oil pressure in the scanner. The only thing you could check with this would be whether the gauge shows the correct value, but I think that is the rarest...

Exhaust fumes and sound coming from intake

But the engine starts and runs, but not long, might be that the tune is not correct, even if he wrote on the first page, that he made the tune for the vvt engine. By the way, what is a vvt engine? And the fact that white steam comes out of the intakes make me think, that there is something...

Exhaust fumes and sound coming from intake

Why was the engine replaced? Did the old engine die? Did the old engine perhaps clog the catalytic converters when it died? Now the new engine can't get rid of the exhaust gas. That would explain why there is smoke from the intake area and why it stops running. Because if it doesn't get...

    Oil Consumption

So I've thought the whole thing through and think that my poor compression on one cylinder may be due to carbon on the piston rings, especially since the bottom of the piston ring has a relatively large amount of carbon, which in my opinion comes from the leaky valve stem seals. So I'll...

    Oil Consumption

So now I'm completely confused. I did a compression test again on cylinder 5. Result: 12 bar, which is about 174 psi, then a wet compression test, which was 13.5 bar, so about 195 psi, which would indicate the piston rings. Then I did a pressure drop test which was under 5% which is...

    Amp gauge

Are you sure? Normalwise the charge controller delivers the voltage/ampere which is needed to charge, apprx. 14,8 Volt, but never more than 16V. The ampere goes up when the battery is low, but the Voltage remains stable, as far as there are enough revolutions for the generator.

    Amp gauge

Its not an amp gauge its a volt gauge. If you gauge shows more that 14-15V you have a defective gauge, what is not very likely, because a defectice gauge would rather show to less V than to much. More likely is you alternator's charge controller is probably defective. This is usually...

    Bad trans or transfer case?

Do you still have propulsion when you switch to D? Pobably not, otherwise your wife wouldn't have the need to be towed. Foe me it sounds like the clutch pack for the reverse gear has broken down and caused damage to the transmission. But of course it can't be ruled out that something has...

    Oil Consumption

That what make me concerned is that i have a loose of compression in this cylinder. I checked the car for leaks, but i have no spots on the ground and i have no stains which a typical for coolant leaks. But i can fill 2 Liter water in 250 miles. But as well i dont see really white steam in the...

    Oil Consumption

Yes properly I have a head gasket problem because there is also a consumption of cooling liquid. What leakdown procedure do you mean?
