Stick clamp on DC ammeter on Negative wire. Have someone watch it. Plug one thing in at a time and tell the watcher to let you know when the amps all of a sudden jump up on the ammeter. When problem harness is found stick a ohmeter on with battery disconnected and ohm to ground to find which...
Great score on the engine! Sucks for the bent rod on the old engine....rebuildable core? Get nutz and bore it to a 5.7L LS1 then stick a hot cam in it and find a Esky with a blown engine! Hmmmmm...scouring the net now. :P
Escalade Stretch Vehicle. Basically the same as a Tahoe vs a Suburban OR Yukon vs a Yukon XL.

They could have added some more voltage/current pickoff points and I/O in the PCM to where it could actually tell you what exactly is wrong. But you are right, its that bottom line and adding $50 worth of wire and labor to a car/truck during production times all of the vehicles produced adds up...
When the CEL is flashing at you (Didnt see you answer one of the guys that asked if it was flashing at you in post#3) this typical means the engine is experiencing misfires. Could be legit or could be caused by a host of things including the knock sensors and their wiring harness.
First thing I...
I learned the hard way completely opposite of your situation. I had a 99 GM Sierra SLT Z71 and it had the Vortec 5.7L 350. I had to order parts for a 99 K1500 or I would end up with the newer body style(at the time) parts like different suspension and even engine (LS Style) if I even thought...
You likely have a NP246 (Notice I didnt say NP246E) which is RPO NP8 on your RPO stricker in your glove box or center console storage area. In 03 GM went with the NP246E (E for enhanced) and made some changes.
The yukon XL 04 had either a NP246E (also called a RPO Code NP8 but not the same as a...
Look on your RPO code sticker It will have NR4, NP8 or ?? under the N codes. whats yours? What is the vehicle. I got that you have a 2002 something in the title. And the donor vehicle was a 04 Yukon XL SLT which likely has a NP246E.
What buttons do you have on the dash of your 2002 for the...
They could be different models of the 246(E) because of the change around 2002/03 or one could be a NP246E and the other a NP241. There should be a round tag on the rear of the case. It will be completely opposite side of the front driveshaft output shaft. Near the fluid fill plug. The model...
Yes. Except the Tahue/Sub/Yuk have manually engageable 4wd not front wheel drive. Some have the auto4wd feature, especially the LT,SLT models. Both of my 2003 Tahoe LT's have the Auto4WD button.
There a few here that are confusing "flushing" with "oil change". No where in here did I say to NOT change your tranny fluid. I said dont do a FLUSH.
You left out quite a few seals in your case pan and axle seal(?) example. Axle seal on a 4L60E? Are you in FWD world? The SEALS (Not pan...
Could be lifter, piston slap, broken or missing exhaust manifolf bolt, leaking exhaust flange in the exhaust down pipe or even a loose torque converter bolt. First thing I would do is check on a cold engine that every exhaust manifold bolt is there and touch them to make sure they arent loose...
Economically it just doesnt make sense to get an engine sleeved/resleeved unless of course the engine is desired because of matching numbers, rarity or its a special build that is not very common and the desired engine size is not obtainable any other way.
Between the cost of the sleeves and...
The only chance that 306k tranny has never been rebuilt is if god himself built it. Hopefully the front seal isnt walking out like the old 700R4 was notorious for doing. A worn tranny pump or its bushing can cause the torque converter to get canted and ruin the front seals ability to seal. I...
What likely happened is the engine flush additives cause the rear main seal to shrink or expand. Which of course leaves gaps and leaks. After heat cycles and plenty of oil coming in contact with the seal lips and has reversed what was done to them. Myself I would plan on a rear main seal soon...
You are not using the correct term for the transfer case that would be in a Denali. It would be a AWD(All Wheel Drive)....not Automatic Fulltime 4x4. The regular yukon, tahoe, etc could have a selectable 2/4hi/4lo or 2/4hi/4lo/Auto 4WD and the "Auto 4wd" is not the same as AWD. An AWD unit...
You wont have any metal on your magnet in the Tcase unless its hard parts failure. The case is magnesium alloy and its much softer than that steel chain.
If Oring was leaking the oil pressure would be jumping around substantially. Pop the valve covers off and inspect for damage, abnormal wear and excessive rocker clearance.
Have you checked the fluid level in the Tcase recently? Chain could also be stretched and smacking the inside of the case. If thats what is making the noise then it will be peeking out of the case soon enough.
Yes you can save yourself a whole engine replacement and cost by ruling out low compression, stuck lifter, leaking valve, ignition system fault and host of whole lot of other things. Is it throwing and codes? Flashing the CEL at you?
Have a look on your RPO sticker under the "N's" which is where the code for your transfer case is. It will be a NP3 or a NR4. You should have a AWD Borg Warner TCase.
