    Drive with lift glass open?

Knowing how the hinges are glued to the glass, and knowing how easy it it to actually remove the hatch glass, I think now I would remove the hatch glass in this case. Even the newer style (from 2006), I would still be concerned even though the hinges seem to be more secure. And opening the...

    New to catch can

I actually removed my catch can. It may have been the humidity and temperature where I live, but I was getting so much water every few days to week that it would fill up and actually pull milky water into the valve train. It was trapping more water than oil vapour. Not nice. So, if you do...

    03 z71 Tahoe didn’t stay aligned

A reputable alignment shop should be checking all these things, including the wishbone bolts. In fact, unless I'm wrong, they have to be loosened to adjust camber. A few years ago I had a shop that left bolts loose. They had already taken me to the cleaners on an issue and I decided it wasn't...

    Battery Drain

This little device has worked well for me: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MT4583U?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title By recording voltage continuously, you can see if your alternator is doing enough work to keep the battery charged. Note, you cannot rely on the dash voltmeter to give you an...

5.3L cylinder head. Which side should be normal?

Do you STILL have a coolant leak? Maybe the clean valve train was from a previously fixed leak. If you had any significant amount of coolant in the oil after the change, it would be sludgy, but not milky (if you have Dexcool). The coolant detected in the oil may have been from some remaining...

5.3L cylinder head. Which side should be normal?

This was my first though when I saw your first post. The left side is just too clean. Before going any further with taking things apart, do a coolant pressure test with the valve covers off. This should show where the water is getting in. If it were a small crack, you would see the cleaned...

Fuel Pump Access Door in floor of 2007-2014 models

What's it like if your tank is full, and your fuel pump goes then?

Fuel Pump Access Door in floor of 2007-2014 models

Coat the brake lines with POR-15 while you're at it. That was the cause of my brake failure a couple of years ago.

Fuel Pump Access Door in floor of 2007-2014 models

That is if the small Ma and Pop shops are reliable. I've had small Ma and Pop shops leave suspension or alignment bolts loose that almost killed me.

    2005 5.3 Ticking Journey

I have a ticking sound on mine. I got a stethoscope and heard a faint ticking sound from the rear of my PS exhaust manifold. After tightening the exhaust manifold bolts, the sound didn't go away, but it was definitely different. I hear that exhaust manifolds (even new ones) warp after the...

Body mount bolt washers rusted away - replacements ?

It's a different year, it's a pickup, not SUV, ..... but...... might you be so lucky? It's worth checking out.

    Front diff or wheel bearingh

I have had bad wheel bearings and not been able to feel a thing when raising the vehicle to spin or rock the wheel by hand. The bearing was so bad we had to speak up louder while driving. However, by the time I removed the tire, brakes, and disk, I was then able to feel roughness in the...

Mystery milkshake after pan gasket change

Could be a cracked head. It may have just let go. It is common on these years. Pop the valve covers off and look for a "clean" section by the head bolts. Below is a thread showing what my head looked like. https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/latest-oil-change-oil-filters.99646/page-4

Is it possible to keep truck too long?

About 10 years ago I thought I would replace a 20 year old vehicle because more an more things will be wearing out, increasing the cost of ownership. Two things have happened in the last 5 years to change my opinion on this. 1) Used vehicles are so much more expensive that repairing a 20 year...

Intake Manifold Nipple Broken! Please Help

Your JBWeld repair is what I would have suggested. I probably would have done the repair in several stages. I would start with a thin coat to hold the new nipple on. Then I would wrap the entire repair from the original stub to the new nipple with wire to reinforce the repair, then build up...

    Battery Drain

May be far fetched, but... I discovered that the little switch for the hood light can get stuck. It's a pretty cheap design. I suppose is it possible that it might stick in the open position when the hood is closed. I have mine disconnected just in case.

Oil leak rear main seal maybe????

Maybe not the rear main, but could be the rear cover which is common. In this case it won't likely sling off the flywheel, but can still drain down the back of the engine. This is very difficult to see. In any case, fixing the rear cover gasket is the same process as the rear main and should...

    Rear wheel bearing, replace axle?

How would this requirement be any different from installing a regular bearing? I would think any bearing should be a smooth tight fit.

Cabin air filter for rear A/C

As far as I know (at least in my 2002), the rear HVAC uses recycled air only, so no need to filter.

    Rear wheel bearing, replace axle?

I heard about those before, but didn't realize they were available for the Tahoe. I'll wait until summer when I have some time, then pull the axles and see what they look like.

    Rear wheel bearing, replace axle?

@OR VietVet Actually, logistics are not bad for me considering I'm in Canada. At least I can have parts shipped to a parcel drop in Blaine which often saves me extra taxes and duty. If I have parts shipped directly to Canada from Rockauto, they charge me everything including duty.

    Rear wheel bearing, replace axle?

@OR VietVet I had the wheels off a couple of months ago when dealing with a frozen parking brake cable. It has something like 350-400000 km which translates to about 250000 mi. You say I put the wheels on and drove it anyway. That is my fact of life here, unfortunately. Living in Canada...

    Rear wheel bearing, replace axle?

As I understand it, there is not separate inner race on our Tahoes. (see article linked below) Note the damage in the first image of the linked article. https://www.agcoauto.com/content/news/p2_articleid/137 It is possible my diff fluid did go below a critical level when the rear cover was...
