6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

Honestly I didn't realize the whole engine family was so similar. Maybe I should have went with the 7.0L 427! I've known about the Duramax swaps for quite some time. I guess I was basing my comment about it being unique off of the fact that it was an engine that just debuted a couple of years...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

If, and it is a BIG if....I was to consider selling this thing, any idea on what someone would be willing to pay? It being a highly specific, 1 off type of build, and the mileage, I'm concerned I'd get burned on any sort of good sale price. This thing is a MONSTER since the engine swap...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

The MPG has suffered, but only a little. We are in cold season here in KY, so there's been a lot of idling and such so it's been tough to get a good true read on MPG. I am estimating it's lost maybe 1.5 MPG in town, but I think I gained that much or more on highway driving. With the added...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

They are factory headlights. I removed the chrome strip on top and had it paint matched. Then had the headlight lens sanded/cleared.

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

Man this thing has been a BLAST! I've honestly only floored it from a dead stop 5 times or so since I've had it back, and it makes me grin ear to ear each time. The torque that this 6.6 makes down low is just nuts! The only real thing I'm looking to do differently is with the exhaust. During...

Fans run like the engine is overheating, coolant gauge reads no temperature, A/C disengaged.

The issues here are definitely thermostat related. I had this precise issue with my 2015 Suburban. Replaced the coolant temperature sensor twice, problem would clear up a couple days each time before returning again. Finally replaced the coolant temperature sensor AND the thermostat with GM...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

We are still dialing in the tune. We have been able to eliminate ALL rich codes, and now are only getting a knock sensor code. My tuner is getting things so precise now that he's working on adjusting the sensitivity of the knock sensor. He said what happens is with these bigger engines that have...

    Catch can flow discussion

I'm intrigued by catch cans and what they can do, why they exist, etc. Generally speaking, I like to challenge things with questions, only in an attempt to gain a better understanding of something that's new (to me). With that said, has anyone ever sent their catch can gatherings to Blackstone...

    Occasional light lifter tick starting

Hopefully you come out good on this one. FYI, my failure was on a 2015 Suburban.

    Occasional light lifter tick starting

This seems VERY similar to my experience before the lifter on cylinder 4 of my 186k mile 5.3 decided to leave the chat! Oddly enough, I also used MMO in an attempt to possibly clear anything that may be blocking proper oil passage. In my situation, the MMO seemed to actually speed up the lifter...

2016 Yukon lifters being replaced what about the VLOM?

Having just came from a lifter failure in my 2015 Suburban with the 5.3, I can say that my catalytic converters failed very quickly once repairs were completed on the engine. I know this sounds bizarre, but it may be worth looking at having the cats deleted, and keeping your stock muffler and...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

I don't even know where I'd start at on a price lol! I plan to be FULLY transparent with all my expenses when I get it back. As much money as I'll have in this, I probably ought to keep it till I die, or I may end up divorced!!

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

My tech has access to all the tuning stuff, but in his own words, his tuning is "educated guesses". We are now calling on Kevin Winstead from Big Dog Tuning to get the tune dialed in. He quoted just $150 for a remote tune of this application which seems VERY reasonable.

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

We ran into a little hiccup with the tuning. ECM is still commanding too much fuel, causing a rich condition. We have Kevin Winstead, owner of Big Dog Tuning from Ripley, MS that's going to take a look at the tune file tomorrow and hopefully get it corrected for us. Kevin has done several 6.6...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

The gutted cats is a new thing for me. Never had a vehicle with them before. Do you ever smell that gas odor inside the cabin? Reason I ask is because I do have access to all 3 converters that came with the 6.6 engine that I could have welded onto the 5.3 downpipe. The reason we didn't use them...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

My technician stated that he has "turned off the o2 sensors". My assumption is that this means I won't get any check engine light. All o2 sensors are still in place, just with gutted cats. The particulate or whatever it is that came out of the cats was wild looking! Chunks of white and gray...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

Update!!! I got a call from my technician today saying that he was "currently on the maiden voyage". He said the catalytic converters plugged up very qucikly into the first drive. Noting the notorious rotten eggs smell. He got it back to his shop and knocked the guts out of all 3 cats. The rest...

2015: Back to Factory Fresh Suspension

I agree, you should ditch the front level. It's likely that running that front level has sped up the wear on the other front end components. My recommendation would be ditch the level, and swap a fresh set of upper and lower control arms, inner and outer tie Rods, and see what you think. I feel...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

To answer a couple of previous questions... The power steering works just as it did before! We simply discarded the power steering pump assembly on the 6.6. Also the 6.6 does not have provisions on the block for the belt driven vacuum pump that operates the braking system, so we tapped into...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

Sorry! It's been such a crazy couple of weeks. I dropped the ball and didn't think to buy new engine mounts until the 6.6 was already installed, DOH!! Also have gotten upper/lower control arms, inner/outer tie Rods, shocks and struts on front and rear, serviced rear diff fluid. This thing...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

Here again with another update!! It is now running, and has NO codes! We've been waiting for the driveshaft to be built, and just got it back today. My technician says he'd like to log around 100 miles on it to work out any miscellaneous issues that may pop up in tuning or otherwise. Keep in...

Cooling Fans Running - Temperature Gauge not working - Yukon (and other models), my data, experience and rigged fix.

@zcb350fb These are the part numbers that I used. YMMV. 12608814 - Coolant Temp Sensor ~$30 12674639 - Outlet Assembly w/Thermostat ~$50 You'll also need about a gallon of Dexcool, as you'll lose some when replacing the sensor and thermostat. Clearing the code with a pocket scanner will...

2015 GMC Yukon XL Cooling fans not engaging

Replace the thermostat assembly and coolant temperature sensor with GM genuine parts and report back. You'll also need about a gallon of Dex-cool.
