Let's put it a different way.
Not being interested in an actual number, how do we know if the belt is tight enough indicating that the tensioner is not worn to the point of not being effective enough?
Here they are at 120,000 miles and 16 years. The camera macro pictures are much more telling than the naked eye sees.
The AC belt was much worse and used less. Not sure that makes sense.
It's a very easy job. More effort was needed to get the bottom splash cover on because of the front bolts...
The main belt doesn't look bad other than glazing but the ac belt has chunks missing.
Funny that Rock Auto order ships from my state so that should be quick.
I'll close this out by saying that our Tahoe was in the shop for another issue and I mentioned the trans line leak and implied at cutting in a patch because I'd seen the difficult access at the transmission end.
When I picked the truck up they had replaced the line and the total charge was only...
I didn't see movement in mine when jacked up to unweight the suspension. Perhaps the spring action interferes.
It was very obvious using the braking force on the ground though. The movement was very noticeable.
After chasing a front end clunk in my 2008 Z71 for quite a while what I finally found was upper control arm bushings shot.
The symptoms were, at first, clunk when first backing with wheels turned to right stop. More prevalent in the cold.ook it to the shop
The clunk the progressed to show itself...
Well, we've chased this sound around and finally found it. It is a suspension issue after all and not motor mount.
The sound changed from occasional to always when backing and braking and as a mild clunk.
Having someone watch the driver's side top control arm while doing that it turned out that...
Is the replacement nut on the ball joint special or just match the size and thread?
I searched for J-42188-B tool; $400 to $900. Labor to have it done would be cheaper.
Those are out of the question for my use.
Pickle fork or pry bar and hammer is more my speed.
Chasing a front suspension clunk noise ('08 Tahoe) when braking backing slowly in reverse, I found some movement in the frame attachment in an upper control arm. The control arms were replaced about 2 1/2 years and 21,000 miles ago by our shop using MOOG replacements.
I can't say if it's the...
Full *********** weld is not appropriate for bracket connections like it would possibly be for full capacity (in line) splices.
The plates in that bracket are thicker than the frame tubes ever were so there is no point in overkill on the welds.
That bracket will be in the junkyard far before...
Rusty metal primer, what else?
Actually everything exposed in the picture was painted.
This matches your color preference better.
Best that could be done in near freezing weather but the heat gun came in handy.
Thanks for that but I have beaten that exercise long ago and the importer changed hands (long ago) and it was a dead end with the new company. When I bought it I was too young to realize that a 2 3/4 ton jack was going to be an odd duck.
It's a good reference though for the next jack to come.
I'm sure you are right on the feasibility of retrofitting but I recently did some work at a friend's place and he had two high end jacks that we used at the same time. That left a positive impression.
That puts a roadblock on the thought of retiring the old Beast even with a new replacement...
Yes, bigger diameter would help.
On the support topic, having worked on our blacktop in the shade of ancient trees it's never hot enough to have an effect on support. Been here for over 40 years so that's not a concern.
The thing I am trying to improve on though is maneuvering and the long...
Looking on opinions on floor jack replacement wheels and castors that might be a bit happier (smoother and more cooperative) on asphalt driveways.
My old Blue Beast (NAPA import) jack, probably over 35 years old and original, takes a lot of effort to move across the driveway and to get into...
Resurrecting this for the same issue on 2008 Tahoe. The clamp downs just do not get the crossbars tight on the rails and I can wiggle them enough to show why they rattle going down the road. We have not used them much so I can't imagine there is any wear. It is not wind noise as previously...
