I have a 2011 with 5 inch lift 35 inch tires. I removed front and rear sway bars. I really enjoy getting off road with my overlander tahoe.
Upside:
On and off road the suspension feels great much softer absorbing bumps that would jar you to the bone before. It greatly improves traction off road...
My Tahoe is used as a daily driver but, is often used as an Over-lander vehicle on weekends too. So it is a build in progress. I guess I should have just done one big build thread on this... lol
I decided to remove the 2nd and 3rd row seats for more efficient storage and a more usable area...
I thought so too Until I tried to use it 30 miles outside of cell range.. Maybe they changed it I haven't used mine in a long while now.
Cell phone GPS is about the same too if you are out of range it is just guesstimating your actual location. If you want to test it just turn off your cell...
I have no complaints with mine it has been great. It drives about the same as before the lift and in many ways it is better. The ride is very smooth clearance is good. The only thing after about 12,000 miles is the rear sway bar mount came loose when I was in Utah. With the bumpers I have the...
Something to think about I live in Nevada and there are a lot of places around here that onstar does not work at all... In my experience if there are no cell towers then it does not work...
I liked that about the old body style too... But I liked the MPG on the newer ones better. My wife is a little claustrophobic and she has no problem with it. I can sit up and read back there with a 5 inch mattress.
Very Nice job. I have a rack in mine it is the same height and I use a 5 inch memory foam mattress in it for my overland travel. I also like your rear lights mounted inside.
My aux battery is running a winch and other things too.
I am running a 5 inch Rough country lift on mine I have had no problems with it. It is set up as an overlander. Check out some of my posts for what I have done with mine.
This is what I did inside for storage and a flat cargo area for sleeping inside.
I am updating my window panels so they will look better. I will post up a how to when I finish but, here is a sneak peak of what they will look like. This is the passenger window. And yes I can get seat covers with the exact same camo pattern...
Yes, I have several how to posts on what I have done with it so far.
Link is Here for the inside platform / bed
Installing a power port in the rear passenger/ Cargo area.
I also made my own heavy duty cromoly roof rack cross bars that are much stronger than stock plus there are three of...
I have run lines front to rear it is pretty easy. Once you have the rear panels loose you can run wires under the carpet down to the rear step plate. At each door you will only need to remove the step plates and run the wires in or beside the plastic channels. Then you can attach the wires to...
That area is lower like a trough and the foot of the jack keeps stuff from falling out one end and the other has things that don't seem to move around much. I was driving around Rubicon trail and it all stayed in place. My tool kit is in a canvas bag I store it in the left rear compartment where...
This is a photo of everything put back together they are installed on the right rear panel these have covers like the OEM ones up front. They would be convenient for people to use in the third row seats too.
When you have the 2nd row bench seat there is actually more room under it than you think. I have 35 inch tires with a 5 inch lift kit so the stock jack can not lift the wheels off the ground so I found a place to put a 48 inch farm jack.
I also have custom wheels and use locking lug nuts the...
Since my Tahoe has a bed in back we decided we need another power port and a USB port. You can pick up power at the power port on the right side and run the power under the carpet.
First step is to remove the rubber seal around the rear hatch.
Next remove the kick plate covering the carpet on...
After 200 miles at 70 mph it is still there. This is in Hat creek Ca. camp grounds just outside of Mount Lassen National park.
If you are wondering why there is a tire floating back there it is because I have a swing out tire rack on the back.
And now with a canoe on top it sits nice and low to the roof. With this set up I was still getting up to 17 MPG this is only around 1 MPG less than what I normally get with nothing on the top.
Here they are mounted up with a set of Yakima Keel Over Canoe carrier mounting brackets on top. I have one more cross bar (not installed) so I can install an observation platform, rack or tent on top. I drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the side rails for mounting and used a 1/4 in stainless bolt and...
