Any ideas on where to begin to look for the cause of a wet cargo carpet mainly right side and between the rear right wheel well and the right tailgate marker I got a wet area like 15" x 15".

I would maybe pull off the right rear applique and see if any of the vent slots are broken if so then water is probably getting in from there and/or check the seal around the rear hatch/3rd brake light area there's really no other way it could be getting in.

Make sure to note the vehicle attitude when it is raining. If you are pointed downhill then the leak may stem more rearward of where you notice the wet carpet/padding.
