Looking to buy a Tahoe. Which is the better scenario?

Have you looked at buying directly at a local county or city auction? Once I registered at Rene Bates auctioneers, I was able to place a bid for my late 2011. In the end I paid $7500 for a Tahoe with 70,800 miles. I also got all of the maintenance records from the County. I am spending $2000 to...

Looking to buy a Tahoe. Which is the better scenario?

Jordan, you might consider a PPV (depending on how mechanically-inclined you are). Some from the Town of Addison TX recently sold for $9500-$10,000. These were 2012's and 2013's with 50k-60k miles. Of course PPVs will typically require some serious interior work. I have heard the cracked dash...

    08 Transmission Flush

I only dropped the pan without pumping out once... One of my worst mistakes ever. ATF dumped all over my head and the garage floor! My hair was still greasy after a shower.

2015 Suburban hard brake pedal. Almost crashed through a wall.

Just replace your vacuum brake booster- sounds like a clear cut failure. The internal diaphragm probably ripped. Justin- where are you located? Booster failures seem to be more common in the north (where rust is involved).

Any major issues with 2015+ Tahoe models’

My Tahoe is a GMT900, however the AC failed at 40,000 miles. The repair was a $1500 dollar job that involved replacing the evaporator. I'm not sure the evaporator was installed correctly because we get some moisture under the passenger carpet when the AC is running. I wonder if the AC fails...

New Owner with some questions - 2007 Tahoe LTZ

Where are you located? If it's hot most of the year, you might want to run a heavier weight oil like a 5w40. The Dexos 5w30 full synthetic the PO of my Tahoe used sheared down to 5w20 within a year! The heavier weight might be less likely to burn. You can also run something a bit cheaper like...

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Interesting. I was somewhat disappointed with my MIT. I couldn't really hear or feel a difference. The only benefit as far as I see is the simplification of the engine bay.

    Restoring/Upgrading 2011 Tahoe PPV

I bought the rods from Friendly Chevrolet. https://www.friendlychevy.com/search-parts.htm Apparently Friendly Chevy operates GM Parts Club too. The dealership is a bit of a drive for me, but they had the rods in stock at their warehouse. In fact, almost everything I've ordered from them arrives...

    Restoring/Upgrading 2011 Tahoe PPV

I'm not sure about the front lock rods, however I bought the rears (pre-bent) for $5 a piece. Note that you have to remove the lock assemblies to install the rods. I wouldn't bother bending the rears because the bends are so intricate. P.S. I installed my rear right door panel! I had to replace...

Looking to buy 1st Tahoe or Tahoe and have some questions

That manifold is cracked. Definitely needs to be replaced. Those must have been a rough 16k miles or there was a defect in the casting. Do not buy unless the seller is going to cover the cost of replacement or is going to replace the manifolds.

    Driver Door Hinge Noise

Try liquid Teflon in a can. The Teflon forms a slick layer on the moving parts and the spray nozzle makes it easy to get the lubricant into the bearing. My door hinges made a dry grinding noise until I lubricated them with Teflon.

    Restoring/Upgrading 2011 Tahoe PPV

I just finished replacing the components in my rear left door. In total, I was missing the following: -Door card with handles and misc. accessories -Moisture seal/barrier -Interior lock control rod -Speaker -Window sealing strip After wiping the door down, replacing all of the missing...

Looking for the AFM delete key!

Great points. I am a big believer in VVT. Do you know if experienced tuners have determined where to set the VVT advance/retard points on the 5.3 to optimize performance?

07-14 PPV shock / strut part number verification please :)

I was tempted to buy Monroe until I found all 4 new OEM struts for ~$325! Monroe is usually fine but I thought I'd splurge for the peace of mind. The Monroe front struts mounts wouldn't fit on my PPV. Since that experience, I've just stuck with OEM unless I move to a performance part. I wouldn't...

07-14 PPV shock / strut part number verification please :)

I know that most people are very happy with the Belltech struts. I decided to stick with OEM PPV struts because they are fairly cheap, nice and stiff, and do not drop the ride as much. There was a dramatic improvement in ride control after replacing my 71k mile original PPV struts. I also...

    Restoring/Upgrading 2011 Tahoe PPV

The cracking dash is the only major interior expense I think. The dash alone costs more than $300. Add in the cost to replace all of the cheap trim pieces you break and you could spend $600 and tons of time just to fix a few cracks.

Oil leaking from around my oil filter Valvoline Quick Change

My friend's girlfriend took her SUV to a quick lube shop. After the shop forgot to tighten the drain plug, most of the oil leaked out of her motor! Fortunately she hadn't driven her vehicle long enough to cause serious damage when they discovered the problem.

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

I finally programmed a second key fob! No more worries about the batteries in the first dying. I bought a genuine OEM key fob from the dealer for $80. The OEM fob is definitely a good deal for the quality.

    Considering a 2014 or maybe a 2015 Tahoe

How many of the 2015+'s have that buffeting/booming/wallowing/blowing/banging/wandering/sucking issue? lol

    Front Dash Crack

I'm sure the revised dash helps. Just don't know if it totally stops the cracking or not.

    Front Dash Crack

I've read the revised dash has additional gussets and uses different materials to reduce the chance of cracking. Might just be a rumor though. My late 2011 (1 week before 2012) is cracking, but it's not too bad. Frankly, my Tahoe still has many interior issues that are much more important.

    Restoring/Upgrading 2011 Tahoe PPV

Probably $.75 for the steering wheel? I doubt the dark, cheap wheel even helps with covert operations. I don't understand why GM cheaps out on interiors so much when their drivetrains and chassis are generally competitive. GM was very late to the VVT game but at least AFM was fairly innovative.

    Front Dash Crack

I don't think GM would produce reinforced and unreinforced versions of the same dash. Why maintain tooling for the old crappy, defective dash design (unless they are still getting rid of old stock)? Just order a new dash at your dealership and request a refund if the dash you receive is unimproved.

Tahoe ltz 2017 transmission temp !

To the OP- If the dealer won't add a larger trans cooler, tell them to pay for the repair when your transmission fails out of warranty.

    2018 Yukon Oil Change Interval

Agreed. At a minimum, I would have the dealer change the oil on a new engine at 500 miles. You want to remove all of the metal shavings and any casting sand that might be left over. I doubt the OLM checks for metal shavings.
