-Do you have the PPV owner's supplemental manual? If not, I will scan mine in if I get some time.
-Do you have a factory service manual?
I would be careful before removing too many wires unless you have the FSM. The electrical systems on these Tahoes are complex. What you really need to do is...
Keith is recommending you look for the sway bars from a Police Patrol Vehicle Tahoe. The PPVs are designed for high speed pursuits and have larger sway bars, beefier springs, and stiffer struts. I own a PPV and just replaced the struts. The ride is stiff for a SUV. Not as stiff as my Nissan...
I know it's a pain but I recommend dropping the pan and changing your filter before 100k even if you flush your fluid earlier. My magnet was covered with debris and my filter appeared to be full of gunk at 71k miles. Nothing wrong with a good fluid flush though!
Looking good! If you ever consider buying the civilian trim, make sure to ask the dealer for their "best price".
I bought a bunch of parts from Friendly Chevrolet in Dallas (including the DIC and trim) and kept asking for their "best price". Then, I asked for a "volume discount" on the total...
Thanks for the tip. I went ahead an installed the injectors- not sure they sat properly so I will double check tomorrow.
I was just surprised to see that my injectors were "bank matched". I've heard of the technique in the aftermarket but couldn't imagine an OEM would do the same. I wonder if...
I am installing a new set of OEM fuel injectors to hopefully cure the erratic idle and oil dilution problems on my 5.3L. When I removed the original injectors from the rails, I discovered that each bank has a matched set (same build number on each). Please see attached. I am assuming this is...
Hey, I just realized you are from DFW too. Small world!
My experience is all cars have their problems and defects. My 300zx suffered from failing fuel injectors and a PTU failure (both common problems). The serpentine belt tensioner on my sister's Scion TC is inaccessible unless you remove the...
Do you think this toe is excessive enough to cause accelerated tire wear? I will check the welds at the diff again- I didn't see anything odd under there when I serviced it.
Could I just try installing new control and trailing arms? Maybe an arm is bent? There are some nice aftermarket...
The Blackstone oil report just came in for the year-old oil we drained from the Tahoe after picking it up from auction. Good news!
P.S. I know that there is very little fuel present in the oil, but I wonder why the viscosity is so low? Perhaps this is an indication of a leaking fuel injector...
Anything's possible (don't want to jinx myself), however everything sounds fairly normal to me. The faint ticking is coming from the top end around the injectors. Compared to a 1991 Honda, 1999 Caravan, my 1993 300zx, and a 2006 Scion, this engine is pretty quiet.
Len- Techron fuel injector cleaner is a great product. Aside from Seafoam, I swear it's the only retail cleaner that is really effective. After replacing the injectors twice on my 300zx, I don't mess around with leaking/stuck injectors though. This feels like the kind of injector leakage that...
I am going to drop the SUV off at the dealership to take care of the cooling fan recall. While I'm there, I will see if they can pull the maintenance history. Thanks for the tip!
I am planning on changing the plugs and wires because the engine isn't smooth at idle. I'm getting a bit of...
Scary isn't it? I heard there is a service bulletin on the engine hour meter. Apparently it can reset if your batteries lose enough charge.
Can you check fuel consumed with the gauge stalk?
Darren- Great deal on your records! I have to submit a freedom of information request for service info...
No, GM recommends using 100% Dexron VI. Additives apparently might cause issues.
P.S. I got enough clearance under the Y pipe by placing a 2"x4" above the exhaust, unbolting the transmission, and jacking up the back part of the transmission. This increased clearance between the transmission...
I averaged around 22 mpg driving back non-stop from Conroe to DFW. Note that I'm basing this on the fuel gauge since I have only filled up once. I'm currently servicing the vehicle (my thread is in the PPV section).
I suppose my argument is that every system is in a constant state of wear and...
Updates from the last 2 days.
Yesterday:
-I attempted to change out the power steering pressure hoses (to and from the rack). Unfortunately, the seals were leaking and replacement was a PITA! I spent about 6 hours meticulously scraping out the old cup seals and installing new ones. This part...
Thank you for the info!
The funny thing is that I spend the most time cruising on perfectly flat roads with relatively little traffic and not much wind for miles at under 60 mph. Basically, North Texas in a nutshell unless I get on the freeway or get stuck in traffic during rush hour. I drive...
Has anyone identified exactly how the AFM system damages lifters, the cam, and eventually the bottom end? I'd like to keep AFM unless it's shown to be faulty. Perhaps the AFM problems can be minimized through preventative maintenance?:
-Replace leaking/dripping fuel injectors to keep gasoline...
Aaron,
Great to hear you are getting good results from the Lubegard. My transmission shifted well before I performed the service so I'm just going to change the filter and refill at least once every 45k. Dexron VI seems like great stuff- I wish it was available in the 90's!
Have you tried...
Hi Joe,
I would change all of the fluids you mentioned, especially with 115k on the odometer. I would assume that your differential, coolant, and AT have not been serviced if you don't know. If your brake fluid is dark, I would change it too. You may want to grease your chassis as well...
Thanks for the feedback. I hope that people benefit from some of my updates. For a bit of background, I am performing all of this maintenance on jack stands in a garage without much fancy equipment. Let me know if you have any questions.
-I haven't replaced the shift linkage bushing yet. I...
How many miles do your struts/shocks have?
I am about to install new OEM PPV struts/shocks. They were pretty hard to find and the model numbers are different for the fronts and rears vs civilian. If you install civilian struts/shocks but keep PPV springs, I'm pretty sure the valving will be...
Great info! I am always cautious around oil pans. My 300zx oil pan is made of thin stamped metal and can be dented by road debris. If you look at a 300zx OEM oil pan the wrong way, it will probably cave in lol.
