Thanks a lot, SLCHOE. That has always been in the back of my mind but I think I had it checked once and it was OK. Easy enough to replace so I'm going to do it.
BTW my transmission frequently feels like a slipping clutch - does that mean the torque converter is going out?
I checked the draw some time ago and it was substantial w/ that fuse in vis out.

Well, it turned not NOT to be the starter. I still have the drain but have identified the RDO AMP circuit as the likely culprit. If I pull that fuse it does not drain -or not nearly as much. FWIW the voltmeter shows strong charging except for the dips as described above.
Turned out to be the starter. It finally got to where it would not crank even w/ booster in place so I replaced the starter. Did not experiences drain so put radio amp fuse back in - no problem.

I don't want a new amp - I just want the one I have to not drain my battery.
FWIW yesterday when I parked it I turned the radio off before turning the truck off, and this afternoon it cranked right up. That's either the solution or an acceptable work-around.
I have the same drain issue w/ the RDO amp fuse. Is not the amp supposed to shut down when the truck is turned off? I'm currently pulling that fuse every evening and plugging it back in in the morning. Getting old. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the responses. I had been over on the engine forum but it finally occurred to me that audio/alarm aficionados might know most about this kind of thing. Plus, it appeared that the radio might be implicated. Indeed, last night I pulled the 15A radio and 25 amp radio amp fuses and the...
'02 Tahoe that I have had for several mos. I am on my 2nd battery but it drains overnight. Seems to be charging OK and alternator checked out OK. I have a 2+ amp draw w/ nothing on that drops to .5 when I pull the 15A fuse under the hood for the radio, climate control, instrument panel. It drops...
Actually, it can be tested in the vehicle. Had it done at O'Reilly yesterday and it checked out OK. Of course, the voltmeter was stable at the time - it comes and goes. I still think the regulator/alternator is suspect. I'm unhooking the battery overnight now.
I've had this truck for 4 mos. and am on my 2nd battery. It drains overnight. I'm working on locating the drain - found 1 and pulled fuse but still drained.
Now I'm wondering if this is a related issue. At idle (around 500) the voltmeter will read 14+ and periodically momentarily fall to as...
My 02 is constantly dying when not driven for longer than overnight. I did a draw test and it was over 2 amps - amps not milliamps! And that is w/ a bunch of unnecessary fuses already pulled. One of the first I pulled under the hood is one of the many RADIO fuses, and that dropped it over an...
But it would run as long as I shot starting fluid into it - so the plugs must have been firing. Right?
I don't know about a pinhole but the contact was shortened and burned at the tip.
"If you slightly depress the fuel system's "Schrader Valve" after cycling key, does any fuel release?"
Where is that valve?
For some reason I'm not being notified of replies.
Are you suggesting that the MFPI may require higher fuel pressure than the pump provides? In researching whether to do the conversion to begin w/ I don't recall any mention of that. It was installed by a shop and they did not recommend a new pump.
And keep in mind that it ran for almost 2...
2 1/2 years ago I did the MPFI conversion on my '99 Tahoe. About 6 mos. ago it started giving me a hard time starting it. It would turn over OK but not hit, and sometimes made a noise like a backfire under the hood. Just like it did before the conversion. I thought this was going to be a...
I just replaced my sub (foam was pretty much gone) w/ an 8" Kicker and it too had slightly larger diameter despite the fact that Sonix said it was a fit. IMO the absolute best solution is to rout out the inside of the hole w/ a straight bit. I was concerned how the hard plastic would rout but it...
Right 5.3.
Might as well be 5.7 as I got 12.5 mpg on my first tank in town. Less than my '99 and '95 got. Not thrilled.
Good news - when the dealer received the title from the auction house they also sent a spare key and a keyless entry fob! From the chain of title I see why it is in such...
I'm in construction and will be hauling sheetrock, lumber, etc. in my Tahoe w/ the 2nd row seats down but I'd like to keep the carpet and seat backs as decent as possible. Is there any kind of mat or cover made for the entire area? Also, any way to remove the headrests as in my '99 Tahoe? These...
