Interesting info about the exhaust manifold gasket. Sounds like there may be some history of this on these engines. Usually the factory manifold gaskets are pretty good. I just so happened to be searching (in limited light) and thought there could be a little black around at least 1 of the...
I didnt think about the gear ratios being different in the trans. I was just thinking about the weight, and converter mass. Good point. It seems like it is taking off in second gear compared to the tahoe. So the fan really does make a difference? I guess I was just expecting more. Probably just...
Just bought a 03 2500 Yukon XL with the 6.0 and have sold my 05 5.3 Tahoe. The 5.3 had a BB tune, but was the basic 87/89 tune. It also had the factory electric fans. Both vehicles have the 3.73 gears. Today is the first day of driving the Yukon and it seems a little bit more sluggish than I had...
I was looking at my factory set-up last night. I dont recall how it used to be with the original grill, but I am running the HD grill. The HD grill center bar almost completely covers/blocks the trans cooler.
You got a point. I guess I could ask him for box of replacement gears. This guy does have a shop full of his own personal cars & projects. He is an old racer, and probably a bit of a hoarder. There is still a chance I do it myself, I just have to find some good videos & make sure I have the...
Just found this article from another forum, where this guy (maybe a member her as well?) is making adapter brackets for an aftermarket cooler. Looks pretty nice installed...
I am a little hesitant on swapping out the gears on my 05 myself. I want to go 4.10 from 3.73. I got a quote from a reputable driveline shop. He said $500 out the door and he keeps old gear set or $600 and I keep the gear set. It would be done in a day. What do you guys think?
I cant recall what temps it has been running with the trailer hooked up. It doesnt get really hot, but I think it hovers around 200 - maybe a little higher. I have a 30 minute tow this weekend in our Florida heat and I will note it. I am going to be doing a fluid swap next week and figured it...
I saw some similar threads, but I didn't want to hijack.
My 05 has the factory tow package and trans cooler in front of the condenser. Is there an upgrade for this or is this a pretty good unit. I tow and have not seen the temps get too high (gauge added), but I know the worst enemy of the...
I was changing out the diff fluid on my 05 and there was a G80 diff installed, which was not on the build sheet. I guess that is a good thing. I havent really tested it. Does this diff come in other RPOs as a packaged item, or did the previous owner add it?
That is fine, I have changed my mind, I finally have gotten my Tahoe about where I want it and really dont want to part with it. Not now anyways. I will end up beefing my Tahoe a bit more for towing.
I will be on the look out for GT5 RPO. I dont know how rare they are, but I am sure they are out there. I do have the Black Bear tune, so it should all work out if I can find one.
Good information, How much of a change in rpm should I expect with the 4.10 vs. the 3.73? I am thinking it wont be a huge difference.
Also, I dont think the gear lube has been changed (140k miles). Any suggestions for a "towing" gear lube? I am going to use synthetic, I dont if I should change...
I am looking at a truck with a little more towing power than my 05 Tahoe with 140k Miles. My truck is very nice and was well taken care of, so I have no worries when towing, but it is at its towing capacity with my travel trailer.
I found an 03 Denali truck - extended cab 6.0 & quadrasteer for...
I guess measuring the inside of the spring would have been good. On my first trip it towed very well. After returning and backing in the camper - BAM! Bag(s) burst. Looks like the bag had been pinched by the coils of the spring. I will take them out this weekend.
I have an 05. I currently have a 3.73, and would like to swap it out to something a little lower like a 4:10 for towing.
Can someone recommend a gear and or supplier
Is there a list of known vehicles that would have a had a similar gear from the factory - like a junkyard find list?
It almost sounds like there is one of the bearings missing and it is dry, like the remaining bearings are hitting against each other (if that makes sense). It is not very loud. It definitely is not noticeable while driving and there is no wobble, so perhaps it is just the speed sensor. The truck...
I have an 05 2wd. I noticed a clicking from one of the wheels when replaceing the brakes. Do I replace 1 hub or should I do both fronts at the same time?
