I had a 2001 Yukon XL that would due that. Did it when the engine started to overheat. I figured it was one of those self protection modes. Ended up being water pump/ low coolant that triggered it.
This should get you close. For 2003 and beyond but it is a GMT800. Not sure of the electrical changes from 2001 to 2003. Page 57/B-16.

Usually when a the side flashes in hyper mode it is indicating that one of the bulbs on that side is burned out. The remaining good bulbs flash rapidly.
