@tjoyce81 I’ve heard of that being a concern but until now it was more of a legend, this is my first time seeing it. Glad I used the LS3 dampener
I look forward to seeing the rest of it
@Marky Dissod I have been looking all morning and I wasn't able to find one with the same lobe profile as the L33 cam that also has VVT, I wonder if someone else would know
@petethepug Gotcha, I have a mechanically AFM deleted 5.3 that has AFM tuned out with a Black Bear tune. Just wondering if I got bored enough if I could drop a 6.0 in or if I needed to do anything else.
I think the LMF is a 5.3 without AFM but they are not very common.
If you are going to pull the motor apart any 07-14 5.3 should work, you'll just need to delete the parts of it that you don't want, like AFM or VVT and keep the flex fuel injectors if you want to retain that feature.
@iboughtatahoe23 That "oil life monitor" is just a timer, it doesn't actually mean anything.
As long as you can see your dipstick through the oil you are good, if the oil is so dark on the dipsticks that you can't see it then its time to replace it.
@Marky Dissod Both routes certainly have their place and it just depends on the objective and budget. Most people who ask for help with an AFM delete just want to get back to the baseline of having a normal running and driving tahoe without the DOD nonsense and from what I can tell the cam I...
Here is the part number of the best factory cam you can put in there, it's a direct replacement you just need to convert to a 3 bolt cam sprocket.

Very interesting that the problem started after an oil change. I wonder if they used a cheap filter that collapsed internally. Have you changed the oil again since this started happening?
@YukonDK It's certainly possible that it is the cause of the problem. You could get a spray bottle of soapy water and soak the area and start the motor and see if bubbles start coming out
@crownvic31 I think he is saying put the old cable back in. You said the problem started after you put the new battery cable in, so logically you would undo changes until you reached your baseline.
If you do have a vacuum leak it's possible the factory tune did a good job of compensating for it...
At 1 inch of lift in the rear you should be ok without adding shock extenders, the only shock extenders worth using add about 2 inches to the shock so you need to be lifted enough just to use them.
One thing you can check is jack up the rear and place the frame one stands and let the rear diff...
@LurkingLuke It is not a fix, at best it is a preventative measure. And the most reputable produce that matches your description is only $200~
The Italian tune up can be helpful in specific situations but if you are tackling a specific problem I would go with a more direct approach
@j91z28d1 The earlier version of the LMG motor had AFM without VVT and then in 2010 the same engine code LMG came with AFM AND VVT. I'm sure other engine codes had a similar thing going on. On top of that there are people here who found a benefit from deleting AFM and keeping VVT.
Quite...
@03GMCYukonXL I am just now catching up to your story so sorry If I am asking questions that have already been answered.
Get that new cam installed with non-AFM and non-VVT components.
Flash your truck back to stock and use HP Tuners to ONLY disable AFM and VVT.
It sounds like the first AFM...
@03GMCYukonXL
looked through my email and here is the part number for the camshaft I used. It is the highest performance Non-AFM Non-VVT camshaft that GM made for these: 12583623
This is for the 5.3 “high output” motor otherwise known as L33
@Writefast Depending on the setup there are 2 pulleys, when mine was doing what yours is doing it was the lower pulley/tensioner for the AC belt. Some Tahoes don't have a tensioner on the AC belt, find out if yours does
@Writefast 160k is about the max lifetime of the factory ball joints. I am guessing the first time they were replaced were with cheap parts like Detroit axle which didn't last long and they had them replaced again will better quality parts. Just speculating on the reason but short answer is no...
