@Stage2Tahoe Hey buddy sorry to hear you encountered some hangups when you first got the Tahoe but all of those things can be fixed very cheap if you do it yourself. Some of the downsides of a lower mileage vehicle is that some of those components wear faster when not in use. Low miles can mean...
@Writefast As far as 4wd maintenance goes just keep clean fluid in the tcase and the front diff (and rear diff too for that matter) and fix electrical problems as they come up
@Doubeleive Are you saying it’s possible that there really isn't metal flakes in the motor? This is turning into a bit of a roller coaster here
When I was asking local mechanics for advice with my AFM delete I got about a dozen and a half different opinions so I wouldn’t be surprised if OP was...
All speculation aside, metal flakes in the oil is not good and cannot be fixed without opening the motor and finding the source of the problem.
Curing a "low oil pressure" problem will not make the metal flakes go away. It could be a lot of things like piston skirt material or lifters, bearing...
When the engine is running and driving you don’t “need a new engine”
I recommend opening the motor up, finding the cause of the problem, and fixing it.
I hope the block off plate fixes it, in theory it is the same kind of seal even with the block off plate.
I deleted the oil cooling system from my 94 k1500 and have increased oil pressure and no more oil leaks. My 08 Tahoe never had an oil cooler from the factory
If you lift it like 3 inches there is a lot more involved to keep things working properly.
At the minimum I would start with a good set of shocks and then decide how much you want to lift and then go from there. Bilstein 5100s are a very good shock for the price.
I recently watched a video where a guy was comparing the Tacoma and 4Runner and he said that while he is used to driving the Tacoma that driving the 4Runner was a much better experience because the frame on the 4Runner is a fully boxed frame and the frame of the Tacoma is mostly a C frame only...
@Tray0625 If the sounds occurs on flat ground when driving in a straight line I would think it is something with the wheel turning. Is my statement correct so far?
Have you been able to replicate the sound with the wheel in the air?
Just to throw chaos into this thread, Jasper engines has a CARB certified AFm deleted reman block they can sell in California. So this topic is acknowledged at a high level
Here is an update as promised:
I have had no problems since I replaced the knock sensor, no check engine light and the tahoe is not running rough. I am not sure if it was just bad gas or a bad knock sensor but I held onto the old sensor just in case.
Keep on driving
I added 11 gallons of E85 this morning and not much change by the end of the day, there was still a check engine light and it was running poorly so I got a new bank 2 knock sensor at orileys and installed it and cleared the codes. Will update by the end of the week.
@Geotrash I was running E85 for a while but I switched back to 91 because of some road trips, I'm about halfway through the second tank of 91 and I will go back to E85 and see if that fixes the problem.
Is it safe to drive?
On the way home I got a check engine light.
I’m about to cook dinner but wanted to get the conversation started about the right fix for this problem.
Code is P0333, is that the correct knock sensor in the picture? Does it just need to be replaced?
@mikez71 The seller is "responsible" for Smog but that doesn't mean that two men can't agree to a smogless sale. Just outline the facts in the bill of sale (as-is, smogged or not smogged), get signatures from buyer and seller, and collect your money.
Most of the used cars I've bought have been...
I would just not bring it up. If the buyer asks if it had the AFM deleted they will be happy to hear it already has been. Other than that you can 100% sell a Tahoe that smogs AS-IS
Dropping oil pressure under acceleration goes against how oil pressure is supposed to work so this is a new one to me
If the problem started after you did all that work I would try to put the old oil pressure sensor back in and see if the new sensor is the cause. I wonder if the sensor is defective
In the testing that I did in this thread and with my coworker it seems that they do not check the computer pass emission monitors but this is not indicative of the SMOG process everywhere, just in the couple of smog shops that we tested in my city in California. I have heard that BB tune is done...
