I mean you’ve been driving it up until now and it’s been fine but when you understand it’s the teeth of the flywheel grinding against the teeth of the starter it’s not a great picture.
Interested to hear what that bolt goes to, I don’t have any experience working on that side of the motor
@Marky Dissod Can you elaborate on the engine braking causing oil consumption thing?
It’s been a while since I made this post and so far there is no oil on the driveway or anything so I don’t think my Tahoe is leaking out all the oil so I’m wondering if you are right about the engine braking thing
I second the starter gear is probably contacting the flywheel.
You can test by parking with the rear of the Tahoe uphill with the nose pointing downhill and if the problem doesn’t happen when parked like that I think you’re on the right track
I don’t think it would be the rear diff, I wonder if it’s the transfer case but I don’t know much about those. But you said it doesn’t happen in 4wd which makes me think it’s the tcase
@lspann3525 Many factors can contribute to the power rating like heads, pistons, and cam. There is a bit of work to get a GMT800 motor into a GMT900 chassis but it should be doable. Was it a good deal or why did you buy it?
@Marky Dissod I think you’ll be happy with them for what you’re doing. I’ve heard the Fox or King shocks are better but $400 I think the bilsteins are a good value.
Do you have expensive body roll? What’s your setup?
@Marky Dissod Gotcha I couldn’t tell what angle you were you getting at lol
I have the 5100s paired with the moog HD springs front and back… and 2.5 inch lift pucks front and back and I run no front sway bar. I can take mountain freeway turns at 75mph no problem.
My shock and spring setup is...
@Marky Dissod I wouldn't say they are comfortable because they are off road shocks, they are designed for performance not comfort.
Backstory: When I first bought my Tahoe it had a clapped out lowering kit on it and it bottomed out all the time and was a genuinely terrible ride. After that I...
I have had the 5100s for a while now, only complaint is that my control arm setup does not allow the strut to fully extend and the upper ball joint is the limiting factor here. After the feedback here I will just keep things as they are for a few more years and then reevaluate the setup.
Right now I have Bilstein 5100s set at the “factory” level paired with Moog 81244 springs and lift pucks.
I am wondering what difference it would make if I removed the lift puck and set the Bilstein prong perch to the highest lift setting? Would it better to achieve my lift with the strut lift...
@dark_knight2571 I was going to say that it just looks like the orientation of the reservoir is mounted in a bad spot, it should be an easy correct. Let us know how it goes.
Here's my 2 cents..
If it was the oil pan gasket why are there drops of oil well above the oil pan, near the water pump?
Also here is a picture from my own Tahoe with a suspected oil pan gasket leak, OPs picture looks much different than mine.
I challenge the theory of the oil pan gasket...
The installation instructions mentions that the kicker bar is an optional to the kit, I wonder if they did that on purpose.
How do the kicker bars tie into the center crossmember?
