Thoughts on purchasing a higher-mileage Duramax?

We have a diesel Guru tech at our GMC. Great guy, has said most all you mentioned. The oil consumption is a baffle in the valve cover. They replace the valve cover. Only effects 20-21's within a certain vin code. Coolant valve is a complex piece which was bound to be a problem...and it is. Still...

Dreaded Effing lifter tap...... - SOLVED

I am at 89K and our 6.2 runs like a sewing machine. It was a well cared for rig w/ service records before us and I am a fanatic with maintenance and care. I am under no illusion that the lifter will not fail at some point. We plan on having this truck for many more years. So my plan is buying...

2018 yukon diesel in gas tank

Diesel in a gas motor wont ruin anything. Gas in a diesel is a disaster. Needs to be flushed out and it will run fine usually with fresh gas. Of course plugs out, fuel rails drained till you get gas at fuel rail, new plugs and go.

Glitter in the oil after the DOD delete?

It shouldnt be shedding much metal with roller lifters. I hope you used new lifter trays. The old ones once touched usually rotate a lifter. I never reuse lifter trays. I would not wait, and do a blackstone oil analysis. Cut the filter open this may be worse than you know. If you had a bad...

    Engine hours

Our Escalade was bought at 72K ...and had 4000 engine hours. 1 Owner mileage confirmed by service and carfax. Turned out it was a Mom w/ 2 kids and literally sat on 2 different school lines a day (which is 4 times a day)and athletic practices. Did alot of idling. Fantastic well cared for truck...

2025 Yukon Denali 25th anniversary edition!

Ridiculous pricing for a General Motors product. With the amount of lifter and cams along with bad bottom ends and fuel pump issues on these motors its insane to pay 100K for a GM product. I have been a GM guy my entire life but it has gotten ridiculous. I dont care if they gave a 7 year...

What would you do? Truck Needs Engine?

130K is low mileage for this motor. Known issues are always a lifter, or a gummed up valve from the DI system. So if a a valve is slightly stuck open it will have low compression. I will bet 99% the bottom end it perfectly fine. To do a lifter, heads are coming off anyway and and when you see...

    Nice Ride

They have been using wet timing belts in cars for over 40 years. Its a NON issue. Not one 3.0 belt failure anywhere in the country or on any forum since 2018. A few engine failures with crazy heat- teardowns on YouTube.....yep oil belt totally intact not one issue. Yet everyone keeps saying they...

    Cargo Liner

I have used canvasback for over 10 years on multiple vehicles. We have 2 huge dogs. It is awesome. Wipes down, blows out, and i even used the bissell carpet cleaner on it when it dirty. Great product really protects well. We just traded my wifes GLC300 and i took it off prior to appraisal and...

    Nice Ride

We have a 2018 Escalade ESV for the wife. A creampuff. We have rented several '21, 23 and recently a '24 suburbans. The new LT suburban rides nicer than her Cadillac ! The new platform is a huge winner in most categories. I would never own it without the Dmax. My dealer has a motor warranty for...

10L80 - filled transmission at wrong temp???

IDK if it was you maybe just bad luck on that one. My tech friend said they dont get crazy with the temp when they do a filter and fluid. Just start, warm and overflow then cap it off he said. He also said he changes his every 30-40K.

Service dog - how can I leave the engine running when I'm not in the car for longer than 20 minutes

I believe this came up with the new 2020 globl B architecture and these TSBs came out regarding. This one is for the pickups. The Police package does not have this feature. I had a 2021 suburban and have a 2021 Sierra which do time out. Which is why I looked into this. The newer trucks may not...

Service dog - how can I leave the engine running when I'm not in the car for longer than 20 minutes

It disables the time out feature GM added. It will run till you run out of fuel. You sign a waiver and acknowledge you assume liability of disabling it. You also pay the dealer to do it, its not free.

Service dog - how can I leave the engine running when I'm not in the car for longer than 20 minutes

When you first hit the starter button.......hold it after it starts till the message appears. It take a bit. Dont hit the button and come off, stay on the button till it appears. It does not keep it running, it just gets you a longer timeout. The real fix is a TSB at the dealer at your expense...

    Buying Used

The most problematic??? Just not true. The lifter and main bearings in the 2021+ are the most problematic engine ever to come from GM hands down. Service departments and parts department cant keep up. They are packed with warranty. I have two friends who are GM techs and I ask them about...

Service dog - how can I leave the engine running when I'm not in the car for longer than 20 minutes

This happens all the time with service dogs, like your supposed to educate people who are ignorant to what they do and what they are for. Many seem to think they are only seeing eye dogs so how can you be without your seeing eye dog?? Just ignorance and opinionated idiots. Yes its truly a...

10L80 - filled transmission at wrong temp???

This is a very common known issue. They try to get it done with a flush but that only works for half the people. There is no flushing a TC. The issue is the torque converter. The aftermarket has improved TC's that are an upgrade and solution. I had a 2017 with the 8 speed and loved it. If I were...

2018-2020 Escalade and Denali with 6.2 and 10 speed is the best you can do in this generation. Each other year has its own set of issues some of which can be avoided in the 2018-2020 6.2

Service dog - how can I leave the engine running when I'm not in the car for longer than 20 minutes

Holding the start button till you see the message is the best you can do, and it only gets you 30 minutes. We went cross country and I set the timer on my iPhone whenever we left the dog. It just not fair to the dog sometimes the environment he has to sit in, I do the same thing and leave him in...

10L80 - filled transmission at wrong temp???

My dealer said the exact same thing. Never had a bad 10 speed behind a gas motor. All they have ever done is fluid and filters. This is a very busy dealer doing tons of warranty work. They had over 7 new trucks in there with lifters and bottom ends just the day I was there. Warned me not to buy...

10L80 - filled transmission at wrong temp???

I was just at the dealer regarding a coolant leak. I happened to speak with the tech who did my friends 2020 10 speed. His is a 3.0 Duramax. His exact words: There are two gears in front of the pump that go bad, subsequently takes out the TC and contaminates the valve body. Said it sounds like...
