I don't mind spending time on replacing parts even if they are still working peace of mind not being 15 years old lol. This is more of a restoration/fun project. I have a strong belief when everything goes electric tahoes of the old will be worth some money. Or I could be wrong and we're stuck...
On a happier note I did sell the 22s that came on it when I bought for 1400.00 over the weekend.
I'm not sure if the timing belt has even been changed and its sitting at 288k miles. Should I change it when I replace the oil pump I already have? Even though it seems to be operating fine its...
Separator plate, accumulator springs and pistons all replaced. Separator plate replaces with an oem unit and used sonnax pistons/springs. I didn't do those parts. Made a call to a local builder here and did some trading for him to come over take a look and see what else I might be over looking...
Well dropped trans and replaced the rear main along with the oil sending unit...what a PITA! while the trans was out I replaced the valve control body and 1-2 and 3-4 solenoids, new filter, flushed and refilled...must of down the trick. No more erratic shifting or gear hunting. Only thing it...
I've done tons of research so far and that's exactly what I'm worried about....all the scams and junk. I've crossed Monster Trans off the list along with Jegs because they have bad reviews from multiple people with the same issue. There a few shops here that specialize or at lest claim to...
I've pretty much scrapped my plans for any power adding mods for this thing aside from the shorty headers I got free on a trade for some other parts I had for another car. I'm sure a stocker 4l60 with upgraded OE parts will do fine. I may pull it out myself and open it up to take a gander...
Sorry for the reply...well it wasn't rebuilt per say more or less got told the transmission had 600 worth of repairs but couldn't tell me for what so I'm assuming that was bull crap or does not want to admit the repairs didn't work.
No codes for the anything transmission related.
Didn't see...
They're Good. Had them checked by a local shop who does ls everything.
However the issue I'm facing now is the trans is slipping majorly. Starts out in 2nd, shifts into 1st randomly, 3rd gear is there some where. I can feather the throttle a little bit to get it to stick and shift properly but...
Purchased a new thermostat this past weekend have yet to put it in
Got a new thermostat have yet to install it. Got a few other parts coming in so I can do them all at once. Thermostat, fan clutch, idle pulley, oil sending unit, exhaust manifold clamps, new rotors, pads , break lines...
The 4l60e In my z71 is slipping and being erratic at times. Some times it starts off in 2nd then around 20mph drops into 1st and takes off then back into 2nd. Some times it just starts in 2nd gear and stays put until I let off the gas then get back on it to feather it into 3rd. It's stupid. I...
Spot and that's pretty much what I did. Replaced the water pump because I did see a fair amount of coolant leaking from it. During that time it got a good flush as well. The current fan/fan clutch looked good so I left it on. It comes on at first start up then goes away until it's needed but it...
hahaha yea the mechanic corrected me about it being a gear box not a rack/pinion but I still refer to them as steering racks. It's apparently still good so I'll leave it alone for now.
Got all the moog parts needed plus a bunch of other stuff. Only thing I managed to accomplish today was...
Thanks!
I did see Moog parts on amazon and was going to ask about those as well as the powerstop rotors. Looks like the suspension and steering components are worn out and just need a good over hual. Mechanic said the steering rack was ok but not a bad idea to change that out to if I was to go...
Of course not that goes with old verbiage ''get what you pay for ''. I'll probably get a set done where I got the heads sitting on my 68 mustang done at which has a 390. Little pricey but damn good work was just comparing average prices around my area. There are a good amount of LS engine...
reman heads is what I was actually looking at this morning. Few shops in my area have pretty good prices.
Another discovery is it looks like the water pump weep hole is leaking coolant so I have added that to my parts list run today.
Should be an interesting weekend changing out pretty much...
You're right...upon inspection this morning 2 bolts are broken. One on the passenger side front and the other drivers side rear of which looks like a pain to get to. I went a head and bought the dorman exhaust clamps for all of them.
Flushed the coolant system and replaced the hoses and that...

I will say these peeps are awesome and well versed. They have helped me tremendously.
It has a fan/clutch I believe in 05 is when they started using efans. I saw various youtube videos of people using 05 and up efan conversions on 04 and down Tahoe's/Silverado's. It's probably some thing I'll do in the future. I think a new fan and clutch will work just fine for right now. It's...
Thanks for all the info!
I did manage to get out there and inspect the brakes. Rotors are fairly worn down and the pads are I would say 80% gone so I'm going to update them with better than OE parts. What's a good upgrade for rotors and pads? When I do those it'll get a full flush and bleed...
It's sitting at 277k miles which yea is a lot however it runs very well minus a few small things and paper work shown at time of sale it had a full tune up with GM OE parts. The Transmission was rebuilt 8 months ago a long with a replaced rear main seal and transfer case. Only minor issue I...
Hello,
I bout my first Tahoe today, a 2004 z71 with 275k miles. Bought it for a pretty good price and in above average condition for how old it is.
I'm a sports car person but decided I wanted a Tahoe for the occasional camping trips and what not.
Not knowing that much about them I'm just...
Hello from Fort Worth Texas,
Just about my first Tahoe today, an 04 Z71. It's in pretty dang good condition minus a few things for the price of 4k I paid for it.
