Fuel efficiency drop in newer models ?

The low-end response I must admit is quite good on the 2024... I haven't driven it much yet since we bought it, but that was my recollection the day of purchase. Wife is a very conservative drive. Per wife just now... Our 2024 4x4 with the 3.23 axle gets 15mpg city / 19-20mpg highway... hoping...

Fuel efficiency drop in newer models ?

Agreed on the longevity.. no doubts there. Are you talking about city or highway cruising mpg ? Why would a 3.42 not fare better on highway ? For city, I could agree… And all that Turbo future is scary (from a service standpoint).. maybe I’m used to working on simple things. Glad I started...

Fuel efficiency drop in newer models ?

Thanks for that. You certainly filled some big holes. I did forget the axle ratio part. My 2024 has a 3.23 axle and my 2002 has the 3.42 axle... with the 4L60-E really going into 0.7 ratio as early as 45-50mph, that sparked my thoughts.. I know all early 4 speeds from the late 80s and on pretty...

    Rear Main Seal

Worth a try.. also begs the question on how bad the leak is and how often is an oil top off needed. Even high mileage oil can reduce the leak possibly. I am so used to my old trucks needing a top off every 500 miles that if a top off is only needed every 1000 miles, I would not bother with any...

2021 GMC Yukon w/40k miles began sputtering/jerking at slow acceleration

This should be covered under powertrain warranty. 5 yr. / 60,000 mile With limited data available on the new powertrains, it is best to let the manufacturer troubleshoot these issues especially in the warranty period, but definitely great to document anything here so others can benefit for...

Fuel efficiency drop in newer models ?

I'm starting to think this whole 10 speed thing is not making any sense.... my thoughts are along the lines of having too many gears without the return on investment. Feel free to poke holes in my line of thinking. Looking at the final drive ratio 4L60-E - 0.70, 3rd gear is 1.0 6L80 - 0.67...

    Rear Main Seal

I usually get the top bellhousing bolts on my other trucks from the engine bay with a flex head ratchet... is that an option here ?

    Rear Main Seal

I haven't done this job on this platform but maybe some general comments First... @strutaeng mentioned, having a good transmission jack.. I love the Horrid Fate (as some call it, haha) 450 lb manual transmission jack so much that anytime one of those come up (used once or twice) on Facebook...

    5.3 Tick/Knock?

Don't know what's going on with the gauge... but definitely not worth installing a manual gauge with what I see there...... The gauge is responding to RPM, so you are good (and btw I am not hearing any knocking in the background.)

    P0174 and P0171

Forgot to mention until I saw post from @Fless showing the pressures.... Before you go through the trouble of changing the fuel pump, just change the filter and see if the pressure improves any.... (least effort/spend to start from the easiest and then move up as needed....) I replaced the fuel...

    P0174 and P0171

Yep... being used to the 80's - 2000's era Ford trucks, I have been impressed with this 2002 so far in access and servicing simplicity...

    P0174 and P0171

curious what setup you are using for fuel pressure monitoring (where you tapping and measuring), just for my info Edit: Just watched a video. Looks like there is a convenient area on the fuel rail with a schrader valve to hook up the gauge... nice!

    P0300

You might as well. Modern EFI's rely on good fuel pressure. If that is the original filter you will likely have reduced flow. Curious what fuel pressure you measured and if you measured it while the vehicle was running... Engines misfire because 1) Timing isn't correct 2) Air or Fuel delivery...

    5.3 Tick/Knock?

Sure, but I'd any day prefer a leakdown tester to put valves dead center. Based on what @Fless sent you want cylinder 1 at compression TDC for the first set of adjustments (checks) and cylinder 6 at compression TDC for the second set of adjustments (checks). The idea is to get least amount of...

    5.3 Tick/Knock?

Don't insert anything brittle like a wooden skewer. (DAMHIK :rotflmao: ) But honestly thats not necessary and oftentimes kind of pain to watch and figure out TDC, if you have the valve cover off, you WILL notice the valve positions and know you are at TDC. If you want to get real accurate, use...

    5.3 Tick/Knock?

No you are good! Watch the valve train. At true firing TDC cylinder 1 (or any cylinder for that matter), the intake and exhaust valves are equal and closed.

    5.3 Tick/Knock?

Yes that is correct. Your are rotating the crank, so the camshaft will be rotating at 1/2 the speed. You will rotate the crank 360 degrees 2 times for a complete cycle. The first time you are at TDC you will check 1/2 the valve train, the second time you are at TDC you will adjust the other 1/2...

    5.3 Tick/Knock?

Thanks much. Simple enough. If the OP is trying this, I must insist using an accurate torque wrench. A 3/8 inch torque wrench but I prefer an adapter like this...

    5.3 Tick/Knock?

How likely is it for a loose rocker arm ? If/when valve covers are off, be good to check all the rockers, ensure the engine is at the appropriate TDC positions before checking each rocker. I don't know much about these LS engines... but assume these are like any old pushrod with non-adjustable...

Yes that is why I quit Craigslist. Too many scammers. If you want to try the better reach of FB, you can have someone post on FB, and forward enquiries to your craigslist ad. (Happy to help as needed.)

That is a really clean Tahoe. And did you also list on Facebook Marketplace ? I find it gets more views. Craigslist has not been the place to look for vehicles since 2020.

    I have a serious problem!

New one hasn't inspired us with confidence. It was back in the dealership less than a month after purchase because the cameras quit working. They had to replace the video processing module! Also, fuel economy is notably worse vs. our 2018.
