2005 6.0 spark plugs coming loose

Sounds like they did each bank by hand and then forgot to tighten one bank.

How to use jack stands properly

I do the front and then the back. This way the truck can't roll away. I tuck the front stands under the frame as far forward as I can and I tuck the rear stands under the axle. The bigger question is why don't you just do one axle at a time?

    2005 Trailblazer woes

I thought I'd share this past week's experience with the wife's new daily driver while I rebuild her 2002 Tahoe. Recently, I purchased her a 2005 Trailblazer to drive. The body had some minor dings and scratches and I almost told the seller I wasn't interested in it until I stuck my head under...

    Trouble making contact for return

Rock Auto has the worst customer service... I had spent thousands throughout the years and took my business back to the local parts stores after they put a bad taste in my mouth. I had ordered a radiator that got damaged during shipping. While this technically was not Rock Auto's fault, it was...

    Questions about the RC 6"

A bit late but just to clear the air... No. No. No. I am not a huge fan of their kit for the 88-98 trucks but the only modification required is to the y-pipe due to front driveshaft clearance issues. A truck with healthy CV shafts, control arm bushings and ball joints will NOT chew through any...

More towing power from the 6.0

This is common sense. Short tube headers or stock manifolds for torque. Several friends have made fun of me for not wasting money on the intake or exhaust system on these trucks. Don't waste your money on either of them in a 5,500lb truck. Your best bang for the buck is going to be a tune from...

Does a replacement engine show accurate hours?

I can't comment on passenger vehicles but the rule of thumb for our municipal trucks is 10-15 miles per hour of run time. You never know how much time a vehicle spent idling and it is horrible. I have seen many BBC motors be idled to death at 50,000 miles.

More towing power from the 6.0

Replace those head bolts with Ebay stainless steel studs for $20. Best investment I continously make time after time when I have the motor out (since I usually end up having to weld nuts on 2 or 3 broken manifold studs).

    2002 Tahoe Z71

Where was that located? Perhaps before my time or recollection lol. My parents had a summer home 5 minutes away from stokes in the mid through late 90's but I was 10.

    LQ4 Tahoe Cam

Nah. I grew up doing this stuff with my dad and it was a big passion of mine before I had a family of my own. I used to build one or two cars a year and assembled several motors for friends. Once you get the bug, you get hooked. I just don't have the time or money to do it anymore. It's funny...

    LQ4 Tahoe Cam

Awesome! You'll have fun. I always pull the motor when I do this kind of stuff because it's easier to work on but I bet its doable in a full size truck. If it's out, pop the main and rod caps off one at a time for bearing inspections. Its worth the piece of mind IMO. Depending on how anal you...

    LQ4 Tahoe Cam

Doing the work yourself? I have stuck cams in f-bodies for half that without changing the lifters. We are talking about a $390 cam that requires $75 GM springs in this truck.

    LQ4 Tahoe Cam

I already have a relatively low mileage LQ4; around 100k miles... so I guess I'm cheating a bit. I am hoping I can just lightly lap the valves, replace all the gaskets, seals, head bolts, oil pump, lifters, timing sprockets/chain, cam, valve springs (possibly push rods depending on my cam)...

    LQ4 Tahoe Cam

I'm aware of the impact of the cam but I really want the choppy idle... unfortunately, it isnt going to be achieved without a good amount of duration. My gut is telling me to stay well under 220 duration on both sides of the valves but my heart is so set on the idle. Doesn't the off idle...

    2002 Tahoe Z71

Yeah they are terrible out there. I had pressure washed/paint the frame and replaced every line when I bought it. The original transmission case was so badly deteriorated that I bought another blown up transmission just for the case! The inner and outer rockers were starting to rust but I didn't...

    LQ4 Tahoe Cam

Tick suggested the TowMax stage 2 but I think the TowMax stage 1 cam is a better suited match for this truck but I am still up in the air about the TorqueMax stage 3.

Northern NJ in Sussex County. The truck previously was from right outside of Boston MA.

    2002 Tahoe Z71

I've done everything on this truck. I have done so much to this truck over the years that I've forgotten more than I remember. I have to be encroaching on $10,000 in repairs and altercations in total once I finish the 6 liter. The way I see it, i have done everything underneath except for the...

    LQ4 Tahoe Cam

I am getting ready to order parts to rebuild the LQ4 that is going in my 2002 Tahoe (7.5" lift with 35's; eventually 9.5-10" on 37's). I want to retain the stock converter. This year I can't afford to change out the 3.73's or exhaust; my wife will kill me if I ask to spend more than my $2,500...

Does the thermostat housing have a paper gasket?

No gasket. Thermostat has an o-ring. If it leaks and that o-ring isn't damaged, it isn't properly torqued or its warped.

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

You're very fortunate lol. I assume front CV shafts have been changed? My old girl eats CV shafts annually cause of the lift.

    Ground wire.

Back of the engine block is where it originally was located. Its kinda a PITA to get to with the intake manifold in the way. I believe it is to the right of the oil pressure sensor if you are facing the firewall.

    2002 Tahoe Z71

Same. I wanted one back in high school but couldn't afford it. I recently entertained buying a 2007+ style to lift but I can't part with this old girl. I'm excited to knock off my checklist this year.

    2002 Tahoe Z71

The kit itself is much better quality than the old 88-98 style RCX kits. It took 8-10 hours total but I replaced control arms, hub assemblies and steering components too. No issues within 5 years/50,000+ miles!

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

So swap flexplate, intake and starter... got it. I'm excited to start tearing apart this 6 liter. I've rebuilt 2 or 3 of them already and have been itching to build a motor but life has gotten in the way!
