Tahoe Z71 renovation project - Suspension and Brakes Thread

Yes, I had a Lingenfelter WS6 with Hotchkis progressive springs and custom valved 4600's, and then a ZO6 with Strano springs and Konis...and in comparison to those two race-oriented suspensions, 5100's on a Tahoe are not harsh at all. But that's a pretty terrible comparison. The Tahoe is a...

'12 Suburban Retrofit - questions and worklog

I didn't use the M-LED, I used the Profile Bi-LED (in the low beam spot). The Profiles have a wider throw than the Morimotos. The M-LEDs have a brighter hotspot but the Profiles are already almost too bright. When I'm cresting a hill oncoming drivers (below the cutoff) get absolutely...

    Allharexusa Tahoe headlights

The problem is that those are absolute junk. The projector is useless and the DRL will burn out within a few months. There's no guarantee that these Alpharex ones are any better either...i'd like to think the price is higher because they use quality components but it's entirely possible you...

    Allharexusa Tahoe headlights

For anyone here looking for LED solutions and disappointed in the AlphaRex option, I used these in a retrofit: https://www.theretrofitsource.com/bi-led-profile-bi-lens-led.html Yes I know they are projectors and not super-cool array LEDs but they work much better, and fit our trucks better...

GMT900 Bose Premium Amp to Luxury Amp Upgrade

I hate when people post that they're about to do an upgrade and then never post how it went so this is just an update to close out my project: I'm bailing on this upgrade. Despite three attempts I have been unable to source a working Lux amp. I ordered (a brand new) 15937318 the first time...

GMT900 Bose Premium Amp to Luxury Amp Upgrade

So i'm still waiting for my replacement amp (due tomorrow) however I wanted to add a finding to this base of knowledge. The seemingly widely held belief that the Luxury system doesn't vary preamp voltage but allows the amp to control volume internally is incorrect. It works exactly like the...

GMT900 Bose Premium Amp to Luxury Amp Upgrade

Well that's re-assuring then. Perhaps it's something with the design of the amp that makes the rear channels die first.

Did you end up with partial output from your bad amp? Or nothing at all?

GMT900 Bose Premium Amp to Luxury Amp Upgrade

I'm in the process of performing this upgrade - got the Lux amp and Y91 console harness. I believe I have a bad amp but I thought i'd toss this up in here just to see if anyone has any other insight. I'm only getting sound from the front left speakers. As for wiring, I cut the center wires...

    NBS automatic light question...

Yeah from the responses i'm getting and what i'm reading elsewhere it appears that the GMT800's are the same. I guess it's just the way the BCM is programmed. I will run it by a BCM hacker and then probably just end up disabling automatic lights.

    Overlanding?

LOL @ the epic music. Check out all the trolling and flaming in Arabic in the comment section too. As a dumb American, I am entertained by this.

    Overlanding?

I looked at that one. It looks awesome but it's like $1200. They have ones for the Tahoe and Suburban too. I'm currently looking into modifying one of the many racks available for the 4Runner. Prinsu Designs has beautiful racks in many different sizes for the 4Runner for $600-700.

    Overlanding?

I agree on that thought and it appears that we simply disagree on where the Tahoe falls in that spectrum. Also note that the OP asked if the Tahoe is a good overlanding vehicle, not if it's the best. We both agree it's not the best. Fair points - however there really is no way to "have the...

    NBS automatic light question...

Windshield not tinted, no scratches or anything like that. I actually even tried replacing my sensor with a new one thinking maybe they wear out, but no change. It's either that the sensor is too sensitive or the BCM code for this function is written on the ultra-safe side. So I figured i'd...

    Overlanding?

Side note - I really want a roof rack like that Avalanche has.

    NBS automatic light question...

Dimmer switch works fine. I'm very happy with my radio brightness settings for both day and night...I just need the truck to stay in "day mode" during the day. When it switches to "night mode" it turns on the headlights unnecessarily, dims all the interior lighting to night mode - which makes...

    Overlanding?

Conversely, as you continue to improve the off-road capability of a given vehicle, you tend to worsen other important things - like livability (space and comfort) and payload capacity. You are right that you never know what kind of challenge you are going to have to navigate on the next leg of...

    NBS automatic light question...

GMT900 guy here, stopping by with a question for you GMT800 guys... Do you have the over-sensitive auto-light sensors that us 900 guys have? I'm thinking about trying a cheap little experiment with mine because i'm tired of my headlights (now more expensive retro'ed LEDs) coming on when the...

    Overlanding?

You’re wrong too. We're not talking about off-roading we're talking about overlanding. It's a concept that has a different name because it's not the same thing. You continue to conflate the two and then project your own misconceptions onto others who actually know what they're talking about...

HELP - 2008 Tahoe - Leveling kit? Biggest tires? Wheels?

Not much. I believe 285/65 is the biggest you can go on 18's and I don't know what the equivalent is for 20's. Anything that's a decent bump in size is going to require at minimum the norcal mod. There's tons of info on here if you search though, it's how I decided what to do. I wasn't...

HELP - 2008 Tahoe - Leveling kit? Biggest tires? Wheels?

I have a 2/1 level and i'm running 275/70/18 on 18x9 +18 wheels. Even with the stock wheels it required a good bit of trimming to fit...with the current aftermarket wheels, it took a LOT of trimming.

Clearance to run 18X9.5 0mm offset on 09 Denali?

Keep in mind i'm running aftermarket wheels that are both wider and lower offset than stock. But yeah i needed to do the Norcal mod on the back outer corner of the front fenderwells, remove the front splash guards, and make significant cuts and modifications to the front outer corners too.

Which aftermarket rotors/pads for towing and better than OEM performance?

I went with the Powerstop Evolution kit and saw a dramatic improvement, though I never really had an issue with the power of the stock setup. I had to replace my calipers because of corrosion and the Powerstop kit was the most cost effective option for calipers/pads/rotors.
