When the AC compressor went out in my '03 Suburban, I purged the system and replaced everything myself. Not too bad of a job if you take your time and make sure everything in the system is clean/flushed of debris. Doesn't take much to clog up the orifice tube, which will require you to...
I installed a magnuson 1900 on a LS1 at 48K miles at 130K she's still running fantastic. I had to modify the tune to accommodate my other bolt ons.
Can't say a maggie is the 'best choice' for your tahoe, but it seems to fit what you are looking for. I.e. additional HP/TQ for off-roading, not...
The TVS1900 kit on their website shows the hand held tuner comes with the 2010 5.3 engine tune. Not sure of the difference between your '12 and the '10s however the tune should be sufficient to get your going, especially if you don't get into the boost. My guess is that because this kit is...
Having had a few SC'd vehicles, I'd suggest a roots blower, rather than a centri for your tahoe. Roots make max torque just off idle, thus are good for heavier vehicles where you don't want/need to spin the engine to generate torque.
A magnuson install is pretty straight forward and they come...
The bolt clamp gizmo is a breeze to install on the passenger side. Took me about 15 minutes. I then spent 15 minutes looking at the driver's side and called it a day and went back inside.
I just traded m '09 Denali for a '14. The '09 was a work horse and had zero engine issues when I traded it at 137K miles. Had it not been for some minor body rust, I would not have thought twice about keeping it for another 50K miles. Time will tell if the '14 I purchased has AFM related oil...
Good sleuthing OP! That's not the easiest or most intuitive place to check for this issue. You could have spend quite a bit of money for the local shop to stumble across this.
I don't purchase the first model year from any manufacturer. And if I were to, be damn sure it has a warranty. Sorry to hear about the lemon hoe, hope you come back to the GM fold in due time
Something's not right there hoss. I've driven several of the 5.3's from that generation and they were all very 'peppy' especially with only a couple of people and no load/trailer. If'en you could 'count to 5' before the beast moved, there's definitely an issue.
Apply dielectric grease to the inside the rubber boot and ceramic portion of the plug will help to prevent the boot from sticking/bonding to the plug. Additionally, the insulating (non-conductive) properties of the grease (when applied in this manner) will minimize the potential for the spark...
My 99 tahoe would occasionally throw a death wobble while driving. I replaced most of the front suspension in an attempt to fix it. Once I replaced the center link, all was good.
I have had both the 5.3 and the 6.2. The 5.3 is sufficient unless it is fully loaded with people and bags or if you're pulling a modestly heavy trailer. I was pulling an open car trailer with a 99 Grand Prix strapped to it. On flat roads the 5.3 did well, however it struggled going up hills...
When you first start your motor, the PCM is in open loop mode, meaning LTFT/STFT are locked. Fueling is done via the MAF and VE tables in the PCM. Only when you hit operating temps do the fuel trims unlock and adjust according to your O2 value.
If you are getting bad gas mileage + your PCM...
That 3rd bolt is a *****! Especially if you have a center console. I removed the first two, no problem. Spent about 30 minutes squeezing my hand between the plastic of the center console and the tunnel, said F-it, fall is coming, this can wait another year :0
I had a Tahoe that would crank and not fire, however come back an hour or day later and it would start no problem. It did this intermittently, with no discernibly pattern. I tested/replaced most of the things that have been suggested in this thread.
After exhausting all other possibilities...
Best (and cheapest) thing you can do is change your driving habits.
My 2009 6.2 Denali XL has reliably provided combined city/hwy MPG of ~14-14.5 for the past 3 years. The 5.3 Suburban before it got 14.5-14.8 routinely on the same route to work.
