    Strongly suspect that the only way to know if the engine is 'lapsing' into V7, V6, V5, V4, V3, V2, or 0-cylinder mode, would be a mechanic's live diagnostic scanner.

    If you STILL have a misfire @ 6, swap that coil with a coil on the other side. If the fault moves to that cylinder, replace that coil. Check your electrical grounds. By check, I mean don't be too gentle.

    Borgeson, Lee Power Steering, and Turn One come to mind for having reputations that exceed GM OE. They are capable of rebuilding your steering box. Do not know how to determine whether your 'production code' is LS, UT, or YK. Do know that you want 12.7:1 steering box.
