2009 Yukon XL Denali - Front & Rear Suspension Refresh

I finished swapping out the rear today for my air-ride delete. Bilstein 4600 with Moog 81071 coil springs and Moog K160072 insulators on top and bottom of the new springs since the old ones were worn out. I’m completely impressed with the KYB / Bilstein combo, and the truck handles much better...

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Front & Rear Suspension Refresh

I understand what you’re saying now. I don’t ever plan to tow with this vehicle and that was one of the reasons I felt comfortable going with passive suspension. I never was planning to buy Z55 autoride / electronically dampened struts for the front anyways because they were $500/piece. But in...

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Front & Rear Suspension Refresh

I understand that the resistors are ‘fooling’ the ECU but here’s my question: The ride height sensors are not being touched because I’m not lifting the truck. I only am putting resistors on the dampener connections for the front shocks that plugs into the top of the strut. I’m genuinely curious...

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Front & Rear Suspension Refresh

I ended up installing a pair of KYB SRM 4079 Truck-Plus quick struts. I have bypass resistors coming in the mail tomorrow and I’ll be installing those to disable the service suspension light. I’ll be installing Moog 81071 springs in the rear with a pair of Bilstein 4600 shocks this weekend to...

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Front & Rear Suspension Refresh

Thanks for the tips! Lookin to do suspension work this summer along with new fuel pump. We’ve been driving on the new engine for two weeks and alls well so far. That last block dropped an intake valve in cylinder 3 and made some nice tasty piston McNuggets. I have two and a half years before the...

    2009 Yukon Denali 6.2 L9H Engine Replacement

We’re back in action with a new block! Only down for two weeks and glad we’re back on the road. Had a nice 120 mile drive from the shop in Colorado Springs back to Thornton today with no issues. I’ve been missing that 6.2 for sure. Hoping that we don’t have anymore malice in the combustion palace!

    2009 Yukon Denali 6.2 L9H Engine Replacement

LT at the shop made a video about the engine failure. My poor Denali is gonna be famous for all the wrong reasons lol

    2009 Yukon Denali 6.2 L9H Engine Replacement

Got a picture from the shop today that may explain my sudden engine failure. Pictured below is an intake valve for cylinder 3. The valve appears to be burned and isn’t seated. I recalled a few times when cold starting hearing a loud and sudden ‘bark’ coming from around passenger side of the...

    2009 Yukon Denali 6.2 L9H Engine Replacement

Luckily it already has new valve covers and an upgraded GM torque converter was installed during the last engine replacement  I’m still recovering from that work that was done last summer so I’m going to politely decline any additional upgrades at this time :roflbow:

    2009 Yukon Denali 6.2 L9H Engine Replacement

Just heard back from the shop. They confirmed with a borescope that cylinder 3 and 7 are dead, and both pistons damaged. Jasper has approved the warranty claim and I’ll have a new engine installed by the end of next week. Jasper will disassemble the engine themselves and let me and the shop...

    2009 Yukon Denali 6.2 L9H Engine Replacement

I was originally looking for a Gmt800 but really loved the look and interiors of the Gmt900s. I thought if I could have a Gmt900 without AFM that would be my sweet spot, and when this truck is running good it’s really hard to imagine wanting to drive anything else. The 6.2 w/o AFM + 6l80 is...

    2009 Yukon Denali 6.2 L9H Engine Replacement

Yes! Labor and parts are covered, only replacement fluids are not covered per Jaspers repair warranty. I can live with that. I noticed a small coolant leak on the valve cover before I shipped it down to the shop. The coolant was tinged black so I’m guessing somewhere there is oil / coolant...

    2009 Yukon Denali 6.2 L9H Engine Replacement

My original engine and this one did not have AFM. The L9H does have VVT. When I watch this video I can almost hear a similar valve train noise that my original engine was making. The engine we replaced didn’t sound great but it never misfired. This certainly sounds much worse. So bummed but...

    2009 Yukon Denali 6.2 L9H Engine Replacement

WELP! 7 months later we have our first major issue with the Jasper engine. I started her up this morning and noticed it took longer than usual to crank. Once it started it was running very rough. Check engine light and Stabilitrak light was on as well. Plugged in my scanner and came up with a...

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Random No-Start Condition

Looks like this issue was indeed being caused by a loose negative battery cable. I went to start the truck to take my son to school this morning, and sure enough I turn the key and I get the click with no lights. Opened the hood and jiggled the negative battery cable a bit and the truck started...

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Random No-Start Condition

I don’t think it’s at 14+ volts ALL the time on longer drives but when I hook up my battery to my trickle charger it says it’s fully charged after just 20 minutes on. If the battery was close to dead it would take almost a day or two to fully charge. We do a lot of short trips except on the...

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Random No-Start Condition

My alternator is always running 14+ volts every time I check it while driving. Alternator seems to be doing its job. I’ve taken the voltage reading both when it’s below freezing and when it’s about 55-60 F outside and got the same reading both times.

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Random No-Start Condition

Thanks for the input all! I just checked my battery and the negative cable is a bit loose around the terminal. Going to install a battery shim around the terminal to tighten it up and see if that eliminates the no-starts.

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Random No-Start Condition

Hello all, I’m looking to get some help diagnosing an issue I’m having. Occasionally when I turn my key to start my truck, I get a single click, and then no dash lights or chimes at all. If I take the key out, put it back in and try again, I get no power at all. This happens once every few days...

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Replaced my rear sway bar links with a set of Moog greaseable links on my 2009 Denali. Also threw on a new pair of bushings. Going to replace front and rear struts / shocks / rear coil springs eventually as well but she rides relatively smooth for now. Just hit 150k miles a few days ago...

How cold is it where you are today?

We live in Thornton outside Denver, CO and we’ve had four days of subzero temps, both during the day and at night. We got down to -8 yesterday morning. In typical Colorado fashion we should see daytime temps back in the 40’s and 50’s this week like it never happened!

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Front & Rear Suspension Refresh

I don't want to compromise my ride quality but I wasn't sure how easy it would be to forgo the electronic suspension / air ride without sacrificing ride quality too much. My rear shocks now aren’t holding air and my compressor is dead, so that would need to be replaced as well. I might go back...

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Front & Rear Suspension Refresh

You're right, I got my RPO codes mixed up. I have the Z55 AutoRide system. The most affordable OEM Z55 compatible strut assembly I can find is $450 on RockAuto (DORMAN 949650) and I've not heard great things about Dorman suspension parts in general. For that price I can get two 'dumb' struts...

2009 Yukon XL Denali - Front & Rear Suspension Refresh

Hello all, I have a 2009 Yukon XL Denali that I’m looking to do some suspension upgrades on. I’m in the process of ordering the following parts for my front and rear suspension. My main question revolves around what front shock / strut assemblies I should go with if I’m looking to do away with...

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Drove from Denver up to Columbine Lake in Grand County this morning for our Christmas vacation. Got the Thule on because Santa couldn’t fit all the presents inside the vehicle :party36:
