SOLVED - New engine with DOD delete and Cam Motion cam - valvetrain noise normal?

Thread necro, but I thought I would post an update. Turns out the passenger side exhaust manifold gasket was leaking due to a broken bolt (at cylinder #8 of course). The exhaust finally breached the gasket completely, which exposed the problem. New bolt and new gasket, and she's quiet a...

Aftermarket backup camera - where to get power inside of vehicle

My 'burb didn't come with a factory backup cam, so there wasn't any wiring at all, front or rear. The backup cam I bought has a 26 ft. cable. I ran that through the tailgate and along the driver's side up to the head unit. I didn't want to pull power from the reverse light because that...

Brushed Aluminum / Silver trim in what models?

I'm pretty sure all '07-'13 Z71 models have the brushed aluminum accents on the interior (and the exterior FWIW).

SOLVED - New engine with DOD delete and Cam Motion cam - valvetrain noise normal?

Not really. Mine sounds more like it is low on oil, albeit very faint. Oil level and oil pressure are good. I'll try to grab a sound clip when the weather lets up.

SOLVED - New engine with DOD delete and Cam Motion cam - valvetrain noise normal?

Thanks for the video and sound clip. Yours seems a little quieter than mine, but it could be me just being OCD or something. I'll try to get a quick video of mine when the rain lets up.

SOLVED - New engine with DOD delete and Cam Motion cam - valvetrain noise normal?

I may have left a comma off. The block honing and milling are separate line items on the work order. I take it to mean the block was honed .020 in. over, while the heads and block were simply milled to ensure a good fit. It doesn't say how much was milled off the heads and block. I'll check...

SOLVED - New engine with DOD delete and Cam Motion cam - valvetrain noise normal?

Yes, the tune was written specifically for that cam with the DOD and VVT deleted. It actually runs quite well. The transmission tune is a bit aggressive for my taste, but the engine tune seems almost perfect. Blackbear is reviewing my logs, so I hope to have an update in the next week or so...

SOLVED - New engine with DOD delete and Cam Motion cam - valvetrain noise normal?

Greetings everyone! My #6 lifter collapsed (see this thread), so I went ahead with a full rebuild: refreshed aluminum short block, DOD delete kit from Texas Speed, a Cam Motion Stage 2 truck cam with their beehive valve springs, and a Blackbear tune to make it all run right. Now that it is...

Aftermarket backup camera - where to get power inside of vehicle

Thanks for the diagram. That's exactly the kind of provision I was hoping for. I bought the pigtail and connected the camera to the 10A run/crank circuit. Works perfectly. Thanks a million for your help!

    Failing lifter?

Impatience got the better of me, so I went out at lunch, checked the plugs, and reseated all of the wires (benefit of working from home, and may I say...that #8 plug location suuuucks). Went for a drive and all appeared well....until six or eight minutes later when the oil warmed up and the...

    Failing lifter?

The wires I got from Rock Auto don't have the metal shields and springs. They are just a standard rubber boot. See the pic below. I will definitely recheck all of the plugs and wires this afternoon. Worth the effort before I rebuild the engine. I don't think it is gas related because I...

    Failing lifter?

AC Delco OE, I think. Wires are 748UU, and plugs are 41162 gapped at .040 (checked with a tool). All bought them from Rock Auto. I did a run through after swapping everything in, but I can certainly recheck everything. And that is exactly what it feels like: spark being blown out every so...

    Failing lifter?

Just realized I was in the Performance forum and not the Engine forum. Was researching fixing the 5.3 vs swapping in an L96 or LS3 just in case. Mods, please move if needed. Thanks, and my apologies again for posting in the wrong forum.

    Failing lifter?

Greetings All, My new-to-me 2012 Suburban Z-71 started idling rough and missing this past weekend. With 151k on the clock and the last tune-up done at 75k, I figured it was time for a tune up and swapped in new AC Delco plugs and wires. The hiccup/miss actually got a bit worse and eventually...

Aftermarket backup camera - where to get power inside of vehicle

Greetings All! This is for my new-to-me 2012 Suburban Z-71. I just installed a Eonon GMA12S-6G Android radio and a backup camera in the factory location. I need to get power to the camera, but i don't want to drill into the chassis to get the power wires from the reverse lights into the...

2011 OEM navigation unit in 2007 Suburban

Hello Everyone, I have an opportunity to purchase a 2011 OEM navigation radio from a buddy who upgraded to the 2012 hard drive unit in his Suburban. He only wants $300 and that includes the NAV disk! I don't really care about the navigation function. The main reason I want the unit is for...
