    400,000 Mile Club

My 02 Yukon XL made it to 471,000 before it spit a head gasket. Was all original, including the trans. Replaced them both at the same time, going with a 6.0 and a slightly built 4L60E. Now have 526,000 on that combo, still with the original transfer case and axels.

How long did your starter last?

I have a 2002 Yukon XL with 525,000 miles on it - original starter!!!

How long did your starter last?

I have about 510K on my starter......new engine (LQ4 6.0) and trans at 470K, but reused the original starter because it still worked fine :)

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

As far as I know - they are original!!! I don't have any lift...if anything its lowered, as I'm sure the bars have sacked a little... It needs shocks, but I'm hesitant to mess with it. I'm sure once I do, it will start breaking on me:)

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

Blew a head gasket after overheating due to a blown plastic heater hose connector! The trans was still in good shape, but since I was replacing the engine, figured I might as well do the trans too as a package. Most everything else (axles, transfer case, alternator, etc.) is original and still...

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

No, it's a stock Yukon XL 1500 SLT. It has the GT5 option gears, ordered that way by my father-in-law. I'm not running big tires and wheels - 265/75/16 BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2s, so it spins pretty fast on the highway, but it rarely ever kicks down out of 4th, even with a load on it. I...

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

I did the swap on my '02 Yukon XL. The original 5.3 had 471,000 on it when it finally died. Bought a LQ4 longblock from Powertrain Products, along with their install kit. Has a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty. I'm 2 years and 24,000 miles in so far. My original motor was a FlexFuel, so the...

New guy... selecting cam, need input

Depending on how many miles you have on it, you may be ahead of the game replacing the lifters and pushrods..... Oh..and do the rocker trunion upgrade too.

    Weak blower motor / fan

Didn't know that, learn something new every day. Thanks!

    Weak blower motor / fan

I would also replace the cabin air filters. Mine had never been replaced - its a 2002 - and I got it in 2015. Needless to say, they were seriously restricting the air flow!

    6.2

Your gonna need the PCM, wiring harness, and all the supporting gear due to the Displacement on Demand and Variable Valve Timing. Then integrating that into the 2001 body, not to mention what transmission are you running. Then you have fuel delivery issues, as the 6.2 was a returnless system...

    Torque management

Don't really know, especially in your area. Figure $80/hour labor, and probably 4 hours (maybe more) + the actual new gear $$$. Probably with parts, your're looking at somewhere between $500 - $800 per axle. Depends on the quality of parts/$$$. Yukon gears with all the small parts is $400 for...

    Torque management

Yes, the entire diff has to come out for a front gear change :(
  15. deerhunter1970

    Torque management

You could, especially if you're 2WD, If 4WD, the front is going to be a PITA!

    Torque management

I see around 2100 at 70, drinks too much gas at 75/80MPH!!
  17. deerhunter1970

    Torque management

From what I understand, torque management is only in place during shifting. You have a few things against you coming off the line....heavy vehicle (5200 + lbs), tall gearing and tires (need 4.10s or 4.56s) and a basically stock 5.3 (or could be a 4.8???). All those things conspire against...

    6.0 swap

Sorry - been away for a bit. As for the specs on the Powertrain Products engine, I'm assuming everything is just like a stock LQ4 would be directly from GM.

    6.0 swap

Not for the near future, spent too much $$$ on the engine and new transmission:)

    6.0 swap

I got my 6.0 from Powertrain Products. Cost was $3300, + $399 for a install kit that had a good bit of stuff (gaskets, thermostat, water pump, belts, etc.) & $350 for a No-Fault Warranty - 5 years unlimited mileage. If I had a 6.0 core to return, it would have been $510 less. I swapped from a...

    6.0 swap

No, its a stock replacement by Powertrain Products. It's my DD, so didn't want to go crazy....yet :D Also should note that I regulary tow a 20' trailer with a big Kubota tractor. Figured total weight is around 7500Lbs.

    6.0 swap

Doing exactly that right now..... 2002 Yukon XL, getting a new 6.0 swap and a Level 3 4L60E from Transbuilderguy. Original drivetrain had 470K on it when the engine pushed a head gasket. Figured I would replace both engine and trans at the same time. I sent my ECU to Blackbear for a 6.0 tune...

40K Trans cooler with thermal bypass?

Anyone used the thermal bypass (thermostat) that comes with the 40K cooler? Not real fond of rubber hoses, but I'm worried about getting the trans up to temp on cold days. Thanks!
