Thank you all for sharing back. It really helps me cope. The old guy is still getting my daughter to and from work but she doesn't even want to tell me about new things now. Picking up my late mom's 2008 DTS from my dad this weekend (only 30,000 miles on it) so we can finally out the old boy to...
On January 30th of 1998, I drove off the lot in my 97 Tahoe with 32 miles on it. Over 25 years and 300,000 miles later, I still have it, but the old guy is just not what he used to be. :( My daughter drives it now, but there are so many things. There is major squeaking and grinding from the...
Yes - replacing the tray I think is a no go. Saw a video and a couple of the bolts are in "take the truck apart to get to these" locations. Plus the rust...
There's a nut welded to the underside of the tray. That's where the bolt sheared off. Can't replace that with home depot unless I drill out the entire thing and then have something to fill that hole (some big fender washers??).
Didn't grab a pic because I was so disgusted but the bolt is sheared off right even with the tray. (I'll try and get some later). A replacement tray itself isn't very expensive but at just shy of 300K miles and over 25 years of living in Michigan, I worry about what would happen trying to get...
It snapped off even with the tray. Nothing to grab onto because there's a nut on the under side of the tray. I'm guessing the right way to do it would be to try and drill the bolt out but hoping there's an easier way? Right now the battery is held down with a bunch of zip ties
Was pulling the battery to get to the bulb and the hold down bolt was so rusted it snapped on me. I just replaced the battery a couple of years ago with no issues so this was a surprise. What the heck can I do?
I wanted to start a new thread because the previous one was so long and things have changed (but aren't resolved).
To recap, I had a long standing hard start issue when it was warm. If it was cold (eg overnight), no issue. But if it ran for a bit, then sat for an hour or two, I would get a hard...
Being as I'm such a know-nothing, before I tackle anything, I'm curious about the thought that it's the fuel pressure regulator. I've been looking around at symptoms of a leaking fuel pressure regulator and I really don't have any of those symptoms. Of course adding to my frustration in all this...
I got the breakdown from them today. $135/hr for labor. Four hours just because ("well you have to take the intake manifold off" - who cares what the published hours are) - and then $200 for a $50 part. *sigh*
Funny side note - place that did the ECM said if another shop does the work and fixes the problem, bring the truck back and they will put my original ECM back in and refund my money. Were it my company, I would offer to do the additional work for free, especially since at this point they just...
They quoted me $740 to do this!! Aren't shops supposed to charge "standard" hours for repairs (at least here in Michigan)? I just looked up R&R for a fuel pressure regulator (w/AC) on my truck and I got 2.7 hours from Mitchell. A brand new, full price OEM from GM fuel pressure regulator would...
After talking to them again, they said they smelled gas up where the intake is where it attaches to the center of the motor. I'm not exactly sure what that is supposed to be. They said they didn't particularly rule out the fuel pump, but the fact that they smelled gas there made them think it...
One thing on the table at this point is the money I spent on the Ecm. That shop is getting a call from me. That money is spent so if they refund me I can turn it around and get it done right. I just don't have the tools and physicality (not to mention knowledge!) to do something like that myself.
Update for anyone still paying attention...
Took it to a different place who actually listened to me and checked the fuel pressure and - lo and behold - it's losing pressure when it sits. If only someone had suggested that at the previous shop...Oh wait...I did. I even had a print out of the...
