Looking at a 2018 6.2 with 225K...Good idea or bad

I say go for it. Mechanically, if it blows up you can get a replacement 6.2/10 speed combo for under $7k. I would be concerned about checking for damage on other parts - like the rear evap that's exposed under the truck (look under the bumper just behind the passenger rear wheel). All the...

Help with Rims (No more 24s)

I am guessing from the pic, you are running 285 or 295 35 - 24s as a profile. Your tire size is the problem. I have had the same 24" wheels on my truck since it had 18k mils on it (107k now) I am running a 305/35 24 to protect the wheels. It is literally only a month ago that I hit a pothole...

    Consensus on transmission service interval?

I have changed my trans fluid at every 25k. I have the 6L80 but its heavily abused. So far no metal in the fluid. I'm at 107K and the 6 speeds are NOT known for longevity under heavy abuse. So either the fluid changes are actually working or I got really really lucky (highly unlikely)

How wide of a wheel can I fit on my Yukon?

Apologies. its +30 not +31. Here are the specs from the wheels.

How often do you go WOT aka "Italian tune up"?

Suburban. Whipple, straight piped, 3k stall, 4.11s. I don't think I can win from a dig just cause of the inertia to move 6k lbs that fast but rolling at 40-60mph I am good to go. I got a bus length+ put on me by a Durango Hellcat once from a 20mph roll, so I know my limitations. There's a...

$18K Repair on 2010 Burb? Yup, it made sense.

Thinking out loud, am I better off getting a used L86 (6.2L) when I am ready for a rebuild, rebuilding my 5.3, or just going straight to Hawks for an LT1 drivetrain? The 6.2 is obviously going to provide more power but I need to acquire one I'm thinking the cost to get one will probably offset...

New Member from NYC - Lurking for a while

Welcome from Northern New Jersey. Not sure how far you are but New Hillcrest Mobile of Cedar Grove, NJ did all my work including the Whipple install. Static Coatings of Clifton, NJ and SuperChrome in Asbury Park for powder coating if you are willing to take the ride.

How wide of a wheel can I fit on my Yukon?

If you run a staggered setup, you can easily get 11's on the back. However, you will be rubbing up front with that size wheel and tire. I am running 305/35 24's on 9.5" wide wheels with a 31+ offset. I have some room between the back of the tire and the inner fenderwheel for the rear so I...

How often do you go WOT aka "Italian tune up"?

WTF - Italian Tune up? I got your tune up......RIGHT HERE! On a serious note...The Direct Injection engines can't really get cleaned out that way (WOT pull) because there is no PORT injection and that's the problem. The back side of the valves will always have carbon buildup because there...

Tire Noise Reduction -- Any Experiences with Fender Liner and/or Fenderwell Treatments?

My exhaust is pretty loud and I have a sub and amp. I installed Killmat in my truck and it made as big difference. I have not tried CCF as @petethepug mentioned. I have not tried using killmat on the outside of the truck but @Scrappycrow is 100% correct that is till be fine. I installed a...

    IS AFM DISABLEMENT NECESSARY??

My AFM\DOD has been disabled since 18k miles with a tune (you don't need to go that route - just the disabler is fine). She's just flipped to 107k and a lot of hard miles on her. Factory valvetrain is still intact but I also change oil every 3k.

Opinion: Upgrade to GM Perf. exhaust vs GM Perf. brakes?

^^^ This The exhaust is literally going to add maybe 1-2 HP without a tune and unless you are willing to buy a cracked GM Global B ECU from HP tuners...then the HP Tuner MPVI3+...then pay someone to tune it...(Which will def void the warranty) then the exhaust is literally just noise. Brakes...

    Difference in brake Calipers

I stand by my Wilwoods and Continental tires. If I could disable the ABS, it would feel like the back of the truck could flip over the front - those 6 pistons grab so hard.

Catch Can for 2006 Tahoe 5.3

I'm sure the $25 amazon catch can is sufficient. I personally when with a Mighty Mouse xtreme but thats cause I am boosted. They do make milder versions for stock motors. You Probably won't need it but for me it was worth the extra money. Just ordered one for my TA as I never put one on.

Idea On Cost To Replace 5.3 Engine? 2015 Yukon XL

You need to go to a mechanic that know how to scope the cylinder. If he's worth his mettle, he should be able to see if the valve is open and causing the 0 psi or if there is a hole in the piston.

Dreaded Effing lifter tap...... - SOLVED

    2022 6.2/Alternator Replacement

Make sure the battery is tested properly. If the alternator is bad, I would consider looking at a Mechman. Even their base models which is a factory replacement is worth a few dollars more for a more reliable unit. If you don't have an auto mechanic that is good at electrical diagnosis...

    Cheap eBay turbo kits…

STAY AWAY! The ECM needs to be programmed to handle boost. To do it right - even with a mail order tune, you are looking at $600 minimum. If you go the HP Tuners route you are looking closer to $1000. You need a blow off valve - I don't see one included with that kit unless its mentioned in...

Fix and Keep My 2015 GMC Yukon SLT or Get Rid of It?

Your buddy that is a BMW mechanic and does work on the side - let him do the "all mechanics" stuff. The "all mechanic stuff" is stuff every mechanic should be able to do. Changing oil. Antifreeze flush. etc. Even flushing the brake fluid (even you can do that with a $30 pump from Amazon) for...

    Another option for Motor/Engine mounts

Nice find. Oh well, my AtomicFabrication units were installed long before this post - no sense in changing them now. But good to know there is a cheaper option out there. Wonder if they would do the 1/2 lower like AtomicFab does...
