Do I really need a new engine?

Anyone know of a good performance shop in southern California?

Do I really need a new engine?

I'm guessing an engine rebuild shop isn't the best place to do this? Would I be talking to a performance shop at this point?

Do I really need a new engine?

Assuming damage to these: lifter, camshaft, head gasket, and cylinder deactivation solenoid. It's a top end rebuild.

Do I really need a new engine?

GMC technician said he's 70% sure it's the cylinder deactivation solenoid. He said it would be highly unlikely the electrical problems caused the solenoid/lifter problem. I still think it's related, but don't know enough about the AFM system to explain it. GMC said $4500 for a top end rebuild...

Do I really need a new engine?

Different mechanic. First place said they did. I'm guessing they stopped when they found the loose alternator cable. When I brought it over to GM, I asked them to look at electrical again. The more I read about the AFM issues on these engines, the more I'm thinking that may be the case. So you...

Do I really need a new engine?

Another update from the dealer. They found the source of the electrical problems. The negative battery cable was severely corroded and loose. They said this would have easily caused damage to the alternator. They said they actually see this frequently. So that checks out. I asked if it could...

Do I really need a new engine?

Oh, the other thing that stumped the GMC mechanic is the fact that it knocked, then ran perfectly fine for a week, then knocked again. He was initially explaining that once this starts, it doesn't go away. I explained that it did and he couldn't explain it.

Do I really need a new engine?

No, but it has been suggested. New oil does smelled burnt after about two weeks.

Battery is pretty new. Tests fine.

Do I really need a new engine?

Brought the truck to GMC for diagnostics. They feel it's a stuck lifter and potentially damaged camshaft. The tech initially said the electrical issues and lifter issue are not related. Coincidence. But he also said he hadn't looked at the electrical systems. When I pressed him on the timing of...

Do I really need a new engine?

That's what I've been thinking, but can that cause permanent damage to the engine? Why the new oil smelling burnt and obvious knocking. It was constant the last time it happened. Drove it for about 20 minutes over to the shop and it was there the entire time. I never got a low oil pressure...

Do I really need a new engine?

It's possible I've confused some of the details. This mechanic is a friend of the family and we've been using his well known shop for decades. He generally loses money on the jobs he does for us. There are no foul intentions. Any ideas on what possibly could be wrong with the truck?

Do I really need a new engine?

They've already gone and checked every possible cable and tightened.

Do I really need a new engine?

First time post. I've been working with our mechanic to chase down an issue with our 2012 Yukon Denali XL. 120,000 miles. Very well cared for truck. First problem - I was intermittently getting a "service battery charging system" warning. However, the battery light did not go on. I noticed the...
