My 2005 Yukon Denali XL only tow's 7,900 compared to my 5.3 which is 8600?
A trailer brake controller is an absolute must for that much weight in my experience. I tow a heavy tent trailer w/ toy hauler with a 6.0L LQ9 Escalade ESV and the stopping difference is completely night and day. Good luck and stay safe!- dreeveal

Time for a water pump, but a few questions first.
You can do it! If you can do a solid brake job you can do this. Just give yourself time and watch a bunch of youtube vids. Zero oil pressure - is the damage done?
I guess the sending unit going bad is a common problem, but if it were me I would just take it by a shop and have them check the pressure - should be pretty inexpensive just to ensure peace of mind that it's either the gauge or sending unit and not actual low pressure.- dreeveal

Thanks Scott, I already had an oil test kit on the way - good advice. I finished changing the oil pump, everything seems to be sounding/working good, except I think I have an oil leak now. I've never done it before, but I guess I'm going to dive in and replace the oil pump myself this weekend and see how it goes. I figure a couple days of labor and $200 in parts/tools is worth a shot.
