Not a waste of time, Rocket Man answered my questions, "do the rear tires rotate when the rear end is of the ground and the vehicle is in park?" and the answer was yes. He also stated that the front diff is used as "park" to lock the front and not the rear so the vehicle will not roll away...
Well, I know I keep repeating this question, why do both rear wheels rotate when the rear end is off of the ground when it is park (they driveshaft does not move because it is park) If someone is bored and they want to verify that this is normal I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Mike
John, thanks for explaining things to me. I just never had a GM vehicle with limited slip rotate the wheels with almost no effort while it is in park. I know I keep repeating this, still wondering how the vehicle will not move if the rear diff appears to be basically disconnected internally from...
I realize the true options are in the glove box and understand the GM G codes for the rearends. I had used the vin search before I bought to see what options where on it. I will the wife check the glove box.
Regardless of the rearend type, shouldn't the rear tires not spin if the driveshaft...
According to my vin# search, my ride has a limited slip, posi rear end, and the front is an open diff.
I did bunch of google searches and could not find much on the subject until I remembered to look at the vin info. Can't remember if the wheels spun in the direction on the stands.
Pretty...
Thanks, great to hear that. Both tires do rotate in the opposite direction just like a standard posi does. I never tried the fronts. I guess the GM AWD transmission must lock the front wheels when in park. I guess these rigs are always in basically full time four wheel drive, unlike other...
Every vehicle that I have put on jack stands the rear wheels will not turn when it is park. That is why I assume that the rear end has some serious problems. I agree that I will need to remove the rear diff and take a look if I don't get any information that says this is normal.
Anyone want to...
Just wondering why the rear end tires will spin if the driveshaft is locked in park while the rear wheels are off the ground, I now have to assume the rear end is basically "disconnected" internally in the rear diff.

My project 08 Esky with 234K miles has been pretty good so far. Took it for a 300 mile road trip and got 17 mpg on the freeway. I have been noticing a "clunk" or something like that when taking off "briskly" from a stop or a downshift when accelerating on the freeway. So I jacked it up on the...
Well, I finally got all of the lights (five total) cleared from my dash (actually a few weeks ago). My "project" thread called "Don't always trust your mechanic, fixed my "blown" engine for $7"...
Good call on the plug, another post mentioned that I probably won't get the abs and stablitrac to go off by replacing the oil pressure. Going to replace the switch tomorrow and check for the connections on the suspension.
Thanks
Guys
Thanks for all the great info on controlling the oil consumption issues with the LS motors. I will be doing the upgrades.
Getting back to the statement "No woman or man has business owning a 200k mile luxury vehicle unless they have deep pockets or mechanical skills." I have been all my own...
Don, thanks for the great info on the oil burning fixes for these engines. The TSB is referring to the AFM engines I don't believe that my 08 has according my research, and it doesn't switch over to 4 cylinder mode liked my 2013 5.3 does when I drive it. I see all your plugs looked like my one...
Initially I was not going say a thing to here about the easy fix. And I think I will keep it that way. As stated previously in this thread "let dead dogs lie" in probably the best course.
Not sure why the shop did not at least run codes on it, or at least make a small effort into checking to...
I do plan on contacting her and letting her know that they had misdiagnosed her engine. Not sure I will tell her that it was just a spark plug though, might say it was a broken valve spring to help ease some of the pain this.
Decided to buff it out, wanted to cleanup the tree sap, scratches...
Pic of the passenger valve train, pretty clean for the high miles, somewhat encouraging I guess. Some the small chunks of dirt on the right are from the valve cover removal.
Mike
I figured that it might be burning some oil, however it doesn't blow any smoke at startup and I don't think those plugs have been changed for 150k miles. She bought with 100K on it. Thanks for the link for the #8. Now I just need to change the oil pressure sensor. It is reading 0 psi from HP...
You may have already saw my posts regarding the my 08 Esky project and a post for the 6.2 valve spring part #'s. If you did not see the posts, here is the back story. I recently bought a 2008 Esky with 200K miles for $3200. I checked the vin online for the options. It appears that it has every...
I did look at RA, and they showed a few off brand names for the valve springs. I looked at interchange info for some off the springs, and they fit way to many different models of GM vehicles. I did not trust that info. Found out that the valve springs are fine.
91 RS, thanks for info. What do you mean by a "running" compression test. I assume that I would actually start it up and check it will it is running?
Mike
Got power to the OBD port, #6 misfire. Verified spark to #6, Pulled the valve cover, it wasn't a broken valve spring. Went to use the starter to turn over the engine to check the rocker arm action to see if the cam was wiped and it started just on the driver side cylinders. Will do a...
