Dealer service backed up two weeks or more

Makes me sad to read this sort of thing. My neighbor’s son is a GM master Tech and does a lot of transmission work. Not uncommon for months-long wait, always seems to be a row of Escalades waiting for service. One story was a brand new Escalade with a interior leak, turned out to be a HVAC drip...

2011 Tahoe lt 5.3 waterpump replacement - SOLVED

^^ really good point. If you dont have a cooling system pressure tester you can borrow one from a parts store. Pump it up and look and listen. Also I have a fluid extractor that I wouldnt want to live without, 101 uses and a much cleaner garage floor!

Paint - Ceramic Coating - Question??

I cant imagine what it felt like to see your hood paint fly off like that, at least its a relatively easy panel to paint. Reminds me of the paint problems of the 80’s, if it didnt come off in chunks it just kinda dissolved on the horizontal surfaces. You have a great looking rig, I like the...

Vermont Winter Coming: Help my 2012 Tahoe Body!

It will mostly be a losing battle but dont let that stop you. One of the biggest problems is they sandwich foam between layers of sheetmetal. The foam is hygroscopic and draws moisture in between these layers and they rust from the inside out. LMC sells some of the most-rusted panel...

Paint - Ceramic Coating - Question??

Yikes, I’d think that’d be a tremendous amount of work and cant imagine a consistent result. Is your clearcoat damaged? Have you seen cars with the matte finish? The look great for about a second and then every fingerprint, smudge (people cant help themselves but to touch the finish, the...

    Posable DIY Alignment

I do my own alignments since I rebuilt the front end of my ‘99 burb and wanted to ‘get it close’ before taking it for alignment. Well, it was balls-on and since alignments in my area are about what you paid I thought why not just do it myself. I have since watched a couple youtubes and honed my...

    Brakes getting hot

Word of the day: Hygroscopic adjective: hygroscopic (of a substance) tending to absorb moisture from the air. relating to humidity or its measurement.

    Brakes getting hot

Perhaps since one caliper was dragging the vehicle’s stability control was compensating and the RR was doing extra braking?

Denali in the OBX NC dunes?

once you drive north to Corolla, you may start to see the wild horses near the road. The cattleguard that is the boundary between Corolla and the open beach often gets so filled with sand that the horses walk right through. on the beach, the horses tend to hang out in the dunes where the sand...

    08 Tahoe Vibration - SOLVED

I read your thread and wonder if you could think of anything that happened just before it ‘started out of the blue’ (did anyone else drive it? Was it off-roaded, popped a curb, big ol pothole? Anything you can think of?) My gmt400 started making a rubbing / vibration as it neared 200k. That...

Mirrors stopped working after getting tint

replaced the door glass without removing the inside panel? I’d like to see that! I have seen tint guys remove the panel too, to get the tint under the trim windlace so it doesn’t scrape the window tint edge and cause it to peel.

Purchased a 2007 Yukon XL, now to make it reliable!

I second if your parking brake is working you can leave those shoes alone. I had an old ford with noisy lifters and Rislone was the motor treatment that seemed to do the most good.

2016 Yukon XL repairs for 100k miles

On my 2013 I did a few of those items around 100k miles. I do my own work so parts only: Spark plugs $30 Transmission service $50 for fluid, $25 for filter Oil cooler lines $101 (this is a time consuming job for 4x4s) Brake fluid flush $25 (this should normally happen in conjunction with...

Looking to purchase..need help & info

Not as many problems with AFM on the 2014+ trucks but documented frequent oil changes is good insurance. No, you cannot tune out AFM with a hand held scanner but you can get an OBD2 device to disable it (it stays plugged in while driving). AFM delete is much more involved and removes the...

Noob from the southern NC Coast

Yep 4+2 for nuke training and as far as I can tell retention and manning is a still a problem. I did a tiger cruise with my son and yep, not for me! The crew, however, was really top notch. Full props to our silent service bubbas!

Looking to purchase..need help & info

Welcome to the forum! One of the biggest worry areas is the active fuel management system that many members have disabled. My neighbor is a GM master tech and has mentioned that the 8 speed transmissions have had their share of issues, the 10 speeds not-so-many (except for the strike era...

Purchased a 2007 Yukon XL, now to make it reliable!

Welcome to the forum! The oil filter block plate and the oil cooler lines (pia on 4wd) both tend to leak, keep an eye on those areas. I too am a fan of the drilled and slotted rotors, here’s what I used: Limited-time deal: Power Stop K2020-36 Front Z36 Truck & Tow Brake Kit, Carbon Fiber...

    2013 Z71 Suburban for Overlanding - tire/suspension input request

I think the gmt900 approach and departure angles are going to be a limiting factor. I wheeled my gmt400 burb over the Imogene pass (“jeep trail”) no problem but I’m sure I’d have dragged the 2013’s air dam and probably the front plastic bumper on the trail. I have a feeling the spare will drag...
