    Diesel Appropriate?

I think that this theme about the diesel being inappropriate for daily use and being better for long haul driving is a fallacy. I have never ever seen a manufacturer warning not to use these for short haul daily driving. Maybe people say this based on their experience with big diesels, I...

Thoughts on purchasing a higher-mileage Duramax?

Do you know where I can find the relevant VIN ranges?

    Best mpg so far

I got 35mpg with the cruise control pegged at 65mph going from Boston to Albany over the Berkshires on I-90.

    Diesel Appropriate?

Some folks will never buy diesels, sure, but these are nothing like the old diesels. With the DEF fluid and the particulate filter, they don't smell and they're quiet. Extended idling is not recommended (unlike marine diesels that idle all through the coldest months of the winter). With a CAR...

    Diesel Appropriate?

I understand the sentiment but do not believe this to be true at all.

    Diesel Appropriate?

Totally appropriate. Get one. You will never look back. We bought ours three years years ago and have done 33k miles just as you describe. We do daily short haul driving like grocery getting, cross town commutes and the occasional trip out of town. We have had ZERO issues. Regen is not a...

    2024 Yukon Denali Diesel impressions

I have the base model LT diesel 2021 LMT and could not be happier. I think the engine and drive train are stellar. Ample low end torque = smooth effortless motion. The build quality and durability are tops. Lots of city driving - this thing is tough. It has strong acceleration and nimble...

    Dealer oil change $$$

I pay my dealer $110 for and oil change and rotation. Last I got my oil and fuel filter changed, dealer tried to charge me a separate hour for the fuel filter. I said no. They took 50.-- off, still wasn't happy. I sucked it up b/c this dealer has not complained about warranty - replaced...

How much trust do you have in the 3.0?

31k grocery getter miles on my 2021 Tahoe Duramax and no problem with DPF soot. Sure, it goes on and off, but it's over with fast and does not affect anything. I spoke to the regional service manager about replacing the DPF at 60k and she has not seen replacements before 100k here in eastern...

The Most Reliable Duramax Diesel Engines ...

I would get the new 3.0L Duramax in a heatbeat. More power and torque! The Germans produce these 3.0L in-line sixes with the identical and with 25% higher, no problems (eg, 530d vs. 540d). 3.0L Duramax is a massive engine, despite being only 180 ci, so it can probably take a bigger turbo...

The Most Reliable Duramax Diesel Engines ...

My 2021 LM2 in my Tahoe 4WD is the best engine ever. Bullet proof reliability at 3yrs 31k miles. 35 mpg on a 165 mile trip over the Berkshires, always 30+ hwy, 20 in town. Huge torque with effortless low speed thrust and higher speed acceleration (even over 85 mph+). No turbo lag at all...

    0-20w oil

If you are worried about oil, maybe change the specified 0W20 at shorter intervals. I do mine at 4,000 - 5,000 miles because I think the 0W20 is light and that more frequent changes with city driving could make less wear. GM would have no reason to specify the wrong oil.

    5.3 & 6.2 Lifter Failures Compilation Thread

This is interesting to actually see the broken parts.. Would it also be possible to show pictures of successes, like parts from a high milage engine? There are cars that get salvaged for reasons other than mechanical failure, but maybe those engines don't get broken down.

2023 Tahoe High Country is gone...

Sorry you had a such a bad time with your Tahoe. I have been lucky at 25k miles I have had no problems. I was thinking of what you said about four kids. The thing is perfect for family trips. My two young ones were not happy in a full sized sedan. Now they are calm on long trips. If they...

    Bringing a Tahoe to Germany/EU

Good idea. I just looked it up in the TUV website. Hmm. Need certificate of title and certificate of origin. It says most post 1983 American cars will get pollution control certification, except that certain American pickups and minivans have lower pollution control standards. Then there's...

    Bringing a Tahoe to Germany/EU

Has anyone brought a Tahoe to Europe-EU and been able to register it there? I was considering bringing our Tahoe to Germany (as a civilian residing there, non-US Armed Forces). I see that there are about ten Tahoes listed for sale on line in Bavaria. Does anyone know what's involved in getting...

    BMW 530d

Vladimir2306: I certainly understand what you're saying, but I still think BMW really needs to simplify its gauge and control layout - or make a simplified version for rentals. 200 kph - now and then 210 - was plenty fast for me. Years ago, I used to drive Autobahn Frankfurt-Hamburg every...

    Diesel ETA?

Toward the end, the mechanic in the video does say that the failure was probably due to failure to change/refill oil to sufficient level. The comments on the construction of the engine and strength of components were favorable.

How do I turn off the radio

How do I actually turn off the radio? I can turn off the radio from the dash button, although that shuts off the screen too. I can also turn down the volume. Even when I do either of these things, the auto stop (if I forget to turn it off) cycling will start the radio up again and stopping and...

    2022 Tahoe RST: Impressions

Pilgrim, What you point out about tech and ergonomics is absolutely true. There are too many controls and features. GM is doing a better job than anyone else, but less is more. I have had three GM's since digitization, a DeVille, an Impala and this one. Just try renting an Audi or a BMW...

Where do you get your oil changed?

I have been using the dealer while still under warranty. If I were to take my 2021 LT Duramax Tahoe somewhere else and then I had a claim - even an unrelated one - I am afraid GM would try to wriggle out of its repair obligation. I am probably paying 50% more at the dealer's, but if I have...

odd (regen?) smell first 15 minutes of driving

Hi. For the first few thousand miles, I experienced some odors, sometimes a melted crayon smell and sometimes more diesel like. They were noticeable but not bad. Then those went away. The only time I notice a smell now is if I have to shut off during regen. None of this has been a problem...

odd (regen?) smell first 15 minutes of driving

Can you tell us more about the Banks i Dash or send a link for the one to use with the Tahoe diesel? I too would like some data on the progress of regen cycles. I have been alert to regen c but cannot always (usually, but not always) run to the end of the cycle. With 25k miles, no issues...

How much trust do you have in the 3.0?

I was wondering if your fellow was a long hair too. Looks intelligent in addition to being handsome. Our vacuum cleaner can't keep up. The whole house is furry.
