01 Tahoe Axle Housing and Actuator

New member here. I have searched the internet for days trying to find an answer to my problem with no luck. I have a 01 tahoe 4wd that the housing that you screw the actuator into is broken off. I am wondering if I can remove the remainder of the housing and screw a new one into the axle housing without having to remove the axle housing itself. At local chevy dealer they only sell the part I need with the axle housing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
