Others will have an opinion but I have never heard of an appraiser for a comprehensive claim. Besides, you are not taking it in for a leak, you are taking it in for a crack. Again, ask around and read your insurance paperwork.

I agree; every windshield I've had replaced involved the glass shop talking to the insurance company, with me there, describing where the injury is and what type of crack. No onsite adjuster.
The windshields are tough from impacts on the outside, but weak on the inside. If it cracks it might be from an inside job, if you get my drift.
